Just finished basing the latest additions to the Italian Wars collection. Some pics and thoughts on the figures here:

I really like the way you base your figures. Of course, the figures themselves aren't hard to look at either!  ;)

Fantastic stuff! How long did it take you to do that block of pikes?

Thanks, guys.

WK,

The whole pike block took about twenty five hours to paint and base. It was painted in two batches of 36 figures each. I started it last Sunday, finished it Friday. They are fairly simple to paint - they don't carry any equipment, etc.

This is actually my standard building block, painting wise, for pike units. Some of them get a lot bigger, like this Swiss one for Cerignola which is 216 figures strong.

This is the last pike unit I'll need for my planned Marignano 1515 game. The pike squares, at one figure to fifty men, for this battle are:

Swiss - three blocks of 96 pike each.
French - one block of 72 (this new one).
Landsknecht - one block of 120 and one block of 72.

I'm a big believer in pike squares looking like pike squares - they were not little units, and often several thousand men strong.

Your armies are certainly spectacular.  I am an avid follower of your blog having seen some of your earlier posts.  This is an era that I would love to get into. I just need to persuade my gaming chums that the Italian Wars are for them (oh and clear a few other projects).  Keep the inspiration coming.
