Hammerhead Wargames Show 2015
« on: November 11, 2014, 09:36:36 PM »

Hammerhead 2015 will be taking place on Saturday 28th February at the New Larger Venue:
The George Stephenson Exhibition Hall, Newark Showground
, Newark, from 10am until 4.30pm.
Entry is £4.00 GBP per adult, £3.00 GBP for minors (16 and under), Children under 9 free.

All games at Hammerhead are visitor participation, which means that you are very welcome 'to have a go' at a wide variety of different historical and fantasy based games run by intrepid gaming clubs, historical societies, wargame companies and enthusiastic groups of gamers. You will be able to play a full game or simply move a few miniatures, roll some dice, have a chat with the people running the game and then move onto the next. The show provides a great opportunity to try out new or familiar game systems and spend a day indulging yourself and friends in this absorbing and fascinating hobby. Whether you're interested in The Great War, WWII, Medieval, AWI, Fantasy or Science Fiction, we are sure that you will find a selection of games you would like to play.

There is a good selection of top traders selling a wide variety of wargaming wares, miniatures, terrain and scenery, books and gaming accessories.

Hammerhead show will be hosting a Tabletop Sale in place of the usual bring and buy stand. If you are new to this, you basically hire a table for one hour to sell your unwanted wargames items. You can deal directly with the buyers and answer any questions they may have. With no commission, you keep all the profits.

The Hammerhead 2015 miniature, ‘Eric' a German general, will be available for the first time on the day of the show for the token price of £1.00 GBP, or FREE if you purchase your Hammerhead Entry ticket online prior to the show. See website for details.

Parking is plentiful and FREE. Newark Showground is only a few minutes from the A1 at Newark Junction.

For full details of all the traders and games plus tabletop sales and entry ticket sales, visit the Hammerhead Show website, http://www.hammerheadshow.co.uk

Looking forward to seeing you there, for a great day out! :D

Hammerhead 2015 is being run by Kallistra Ltd and The Forest Outlaws Wargamers Club with assistance from the GCN.

Very much looking forward to this.

Sally 4th is running a Pulp Alley participation game based on Judge Dredd using our Terra Block Terrain, so hopefully their will be some gamers who would like to join in.

Here's a couple of photos from our test game.

One week to go to Hammerhead 2015. Just a reminder that the new venue is the George Stephenson Exhibition Hall at Newark Showground, NG24 2NY.

There are 46 great participation games and 37 of the top manufacturers and traders.

Free pewter miniature with every on-line ticket purchased (see website for details)

There are a few spaces available for the Tabletop sales, why not hire a table and turn your surplus wargames items into cash.

See website for full details. http://www.hammerheadshow.co.uk

Only a few minutes from A1 with plenty of FREE parking directly outside the venue.

Come along and roll some dice!

Thanks for organising such a fantastic show - the new venue was great and the sheer range of traders and games gave it a really "big show" vibe.  I hope it was a fantastic success for you, because it was the best the February Newark show has been in ages.

The wandering Ewok was a nice touch and I should have sampled the bacon rolls...

And to think I almost missed the show because I thought it was on Sunday...

My photos of Hammerhead 2015. I had a great day out and met lots of interesting people. There were some really excellent games going on and a good range of trade stands to help you spend your cash! Hopefully, I have labelled the games correctly.

A Very British Civil Forum – A Very British Discovery

‘Like a Stone Wall’ Wargames Group – The Battle of Entombe River

Sally 4th Gamers – “Trouble at Mall”

From Sally 4th for Crossed Lances

There were quite a few Wings of Glory type games going on and I apologise for forgetting which one this was.

Mad Max v Humungous – Mad Max – Stop the Truck

Some more games.

This one had a very interesting true story behind it, French cavalry charging German aeroplanes in 1914!

Bingham and District Wargamers – Oldhammer/Where’s Wally?
A massive game and 50p a go (donated to Help for Heroes) to find the ‘out of place’ figures/objects. A great idea.

Conclusion: It was a great day out!

Overall - had a good day.
Spent some cash.
Played a few games.
Chatted with old friends.

But not keen on the catering prices.
£1.80 for a cardboard cup of tea or instant coffee?

Some of the games didn't seem as participatory as others - maybe each should have a "next game starts at...." board so you could book a place?
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

Good idea about the board our first time so still learning.
Tea may be dear but a three sausage butty for £2 or so made up for it!
We will be back next year for sure.

Which game was yours?

Some of the games were very open - "join in now and play until you want to go" whilst others were "we are starting the next one at ..o'clock and play until we complete the scenario".

I don't mind either style of game, and played both styles at Hammerhead.

Our game was the Indian Mutiny, got some great feedback and a few games in
The Victorian Outpost

Its a new gaming place in Grimsby with new terrain and new scenery, lots of respect for all wargamers and is the best place to game in town.

Anybody who wishes to visit the venue to arrange a game then  just pm me and lets roll those dice.

Yes, that game looked really good. Somehow, I seem to have missed taking a photo of that one.

We all enjoyed it great venue and  set up , a good atmosphere and people. one thing that we  commented on what about having some tables  set up for people to come and play there games against each other like the US conventions ?
just a table and section for people to bring or even play what they bought the day???
