Painted Robotech Tactics Tomahawk
« on: November 15, 2014, 03:20:36 AM »
Finally got some paint on these bad boys and am pretty happy with them. Again, I'm super impressed with the decals for these. The hips and ankles are held together with wire and I'm still not sure how the legs are supposed to be positioned. That would be a great bit of information for the manufacturers to share. Oh, and the bases are so unique that they are DOUBLE BEVELED!

Very nicely done - so happy to see some properly scaled Robotech stuff.  Are you the same guy who did the tutorial on painting the Miriya mecha on YouTube ---- painting style looks very similar.

Indeed. Nice robots. I have become interested in them of late ..... that is the variety that goes with 28 mm miniatures. So .... what manufacturer? ;-)

What with quite a few people sounding disappointed in the kickstarter and all these nicely painted models poping up on LAF I might just try to find some on evil bay.

People were miffed with the Kickstarter mainly because Palladium is a pretty crap company - and Kevin S. is not particularly business savvy.  The Kickstarter took from May 2013 till now to actually ship, so 18 months...more than indicated obviously.

In addition we had the Gencon fiasco, where the first release copies were sold to random customers - skipping the backers.  So backers have been seeing stuff on ebay and YouTube for three months before actually receiving their products.  Unfortunately, being a Robotech fan I knew to not get my hopes up with a Palladium related product.

I was also cautiously pessimistic about the sculpts they'd shown - but I'm sure they're acceptable.  It's just one of those "don't like the company - but they're the only ones who make this stuff" kind of scenario for me.  I'll be selling off some spare stuff on ebay to fund the Monster/Armored Valkyrie/Zentraedi infantry kits that I didn't get.  There is already a lot of stuff on ebay - selling by the sprue and some selling piece by piece.

I'm glad stuff is finally in customer hands, but I do think the way they've done business may hurt them if they decide to launch a KS for the other two eras of Robotech.

I think I should be rather happy that I am coming in to this now, with you guys posts making me interested in the universe in the first place. Saves me all the frustration of the kickstarter.  lol

Yep, when I get back home - my stuff should be waiting, and we'll reignite that big Robotech thread.  Some of the introductory stuff is already available soon at retailers for discount.

That didn't happen. They wanted to do that, they didn't get products in timem

So their disrespect to the backers was curbed by production failure?  lol ;D :D

There were videos of guys a couple days after gencon - speaking about bringing them back on planes etc.  So, something happened.  Did they have any copies for backers at gencon then?  All I know is that non-backers have had videos up for a month or two prior to us receiving anything from Palladium.

Great paintjob with all the details picked out and the shiny glass effect on the shoulder lamp is excellent. I think it's a shame that the legs are two-part, split down the middle, those lines are really visible. The same, to a lesser extend, goes for the arms. I really wonder why they did have to make these models so complicated.

The Glaug (AKA Marauder) is too large, but I handled some Tomahawks (AKA Warhammers) in person over the weekend and it looks like they might work for BattleTech. I mean they could scale Ok with some of the existing 1/300 BT line.

Overall, from what I saw, the kits look nice when properly assembled and well painted, as they are here in this thread!

Yes!

All I know is that non-backers have had videos up for a month or two prior to us receiving anything from Palladium.

They had three copies flown in to show off at Gencon.  They gave them away to people that helped them.  The guy posting all the pictures and videos was a backer that was given a box as a reward.

Palladium did mismanage some things here, so let's stick to complaining about what actually did happen.  If you want to spread ill-will about the project, there are plenty of factual problems to discuss.
