How did you disassemble the trek ornament? It looks like the structure on top of the body is pried off. Then that holds the wings on?

Yes. The piece in the top left was gently prised off. The wings are held firm by two screws at the rear of the main body, with another screw which partly holds the main body together.  ;)

Mine is all glued together! I will have to cut all the wires in order to allow enough movement to pry the remaining sections. The glue job or the glue itself is poor but there are some areas which are proving "interesting" mainly getting the upper and lower fuse to separate and the "wings" to come loose. Again I think I am fighting the wires as on mine they are just long enough plus they may be hot glued or held with a thick glue like silicone glue or shoe goo, etc.. Not fun so I do a bit then walk away before I pry too hard. I still have to resign myself to cutting wires. There is a speaker but when I activated mine no sound so I guess my prying has broken that already.

I deffo hacked all the wires and binned all that. The key is getting the topmost piece off, but if it's all glued that will be a pain. Extremes of heat might help, freeze it or drop it in very hot water?

Good Luck! ;)

The top popped off easily, except a couple pins stayed glued and broke. The pain is separating the main fuselage halves and getting the "wings" off and I assume, based on appearance, that is because of the wiring. Time to bite the bullet of no return. My luck I will probably find a dozen next week in the Dollarama!

Speaking of which I picked up a bunch of hot wheels lander/X wing combos from there a couple years ago. I found the lander, it appears to carry about a squad or two in 6mm. The X wing comes with a clear plastic ring the kid puts on a finger and the model mounts to that so they can "fly" them around. Neat idea if I was 55 years younger. The X wing looks closer to 10mm, but I am not that big a fan so it may be closer to 6mm. Sorry, it is a first order transporter.

Looked at the first order stormtrooper transport again and measured the model and based on the length given in the above image the hot wheels model is about 1:250, so pretty darn good for 6mm/1:300/1:285. It would also work for 8mm and possibly 10mm as well.

Found one out of the packaging and it is longer than I thought. Works out to something like 1:215. Still close enough to 6mm (which can be as large as 8mm).

That looks great.

I grabbed a few hotwheels myself, AT-ATs and a few other craft which will all fit in even if they're not spot on with the scale. The ATATs are almost perfect. I've only really worked on one, it's up there somewhere in this thread. I've also tracked down some old Starship Trooper toys by Galoob. Perfect for my needs. Currently working on a Thunderbird 2 model... small trader here I come.

Thunderbird 2, oooohhhh tell me more. I had a die cast model back in the '60s, Dinky I think. What have you got for 6mm?

I visited the UK with my mom as a kid (I was 7) and we didn't have the Thunderbirds over here yet. Left a big impression. I have quite a few episodes from the original series on DVD, plus the "New" movie (about 2005 or so?). Lots of fun and my younger son became a fan and watches the original series every now and again as a late teen. I saw on you tube they re-did one of Anderson's series in computer animation, did they do that for Thunder birds as well?

I tracked down a plastic toy on Ebay.

I've just rewatched the entire series on DVD. There's been a few more modern animated versions of a few of the Anderson progs, they're typically best avoided, my pet peeves are the redesigns, and the CGI. Just doesn't work on the character level either.

Just finished this scratchbuilt model of ST Martin's in Canterbury as it looked in the 7th century.
