Looking for suggestions of a good skeleton warrior
« on: November 23, 2014, 01:34:24 PM »
So, I just started playing Descent second edition yesterday.
And one of the figures (a skeleton) is not available as a figure. So I really need to get a mini for that.
I have done some google searches. But I haven't found anything good.
Most of them are not wearing armour. And those who do wear ridiculously oversized armour.
What I'm looking for is a high quality skeleton that wears a chain mail and looks like he just came out of the ground.
And there is no better place to ask than here.
Do you guys have any suggestions?

I'd recommend the Otherworld undead range - possible ticks all your boxes for armour!

Ok you're only looking for one but the mantic skellies are great - pure Army of Darkness.

Thanks!
The "armoured" skeletons on the otherworld site looks right. I'll just wait for some more suggestions to see if something else turns up.

I only found armies on mantics site. And they are quite expensive for just one skeleton.

Yes, I have a couple of otherworld minis. Great quality and craftsmanship! My favourite is their wraiths.
And the staff is really nice as well.
So I'm always happy to buy their stuff!

The only trouble with Otherworld skellies is that they tend to be larger than a normal human sized mini - their human adventurers are smaller than their skeletons.  But they are very nice sculpts  :)

The Balefire Catapult is 2 skellies and a catapult that could get other use. There may be a bits seller where you can get just a single sprue of Mantis skellies.

What scale are the Mantic skeletons, would they look out of place mixing it with 28mm Victrix Hoplites

They're pretty close to Perrys, maybe slightly taller but not much at all.

By the by, does anyone know a good skeletal warrior in more Elizabethan garb? I've been looking for a skeletal undead swashbuckler for a while now, but so far as I know none exist.

I know of a zombie one as well as a very tattered but living one, so getting either of those and doing a head swap with a skull might work alright, but something purpose-made would be better.

If you watch the Cult faction for Freebooters Fate, they may release some pirate skeletons. Right now, they have pirate zombies, but its a new faction and may expand into skeletons soon.

The Mantic ones tend to be a more true scale 28mm...at least compared to the warhammer ones. But they tend to blend in rather well with any undead group because anything without flesh ought to look a bit smaller than those without.

As a side note, the Wargames Factory ones are not a good option for anything you're going to handle much. They're fragile little things there, and snap easily. Though, that isn't to say that they aren't useful for anything, as I've found them incredibly useful to break down for basing, terrain additions, and a few parts for conversions, just not as minis themselves.
