I am very much looking forward to their release. As always, Mr. Hicks' work is exceptional! :-*

I had not considered dismounted and as always am not relishing doing horses but  I shall have to get them all of course.

I could not believe recently when I painted the ammo bearers that I have been working on these for over two years.

Good to see. I can't wait for some proper Russian cavalry I can use for 1914 rather than more ff'ing Cossacks!

Drop Markus a line and he'll tell you if they are on Paul's to-do list.

I am seriously considering making this period a project for next year, any good reading material out there?

IIRC, only Cossack cavalry was deployed in the Russo Japanese War. If so, regular Russian cavalry would not be authentic for that conflict.

There's an Osprey. The only other stuff I found was old early 20th Century stuff from my local university library.

Cracking figures.  I really like these and may just crumble and get some....!

I've had an interest in this period since reading an old magazine (War Monthly?) way way back in primary school about Siege of Port Arthur. Since then I've read few books of which "War of the Rising Sun and Tumbling Bear"  is the best and covers the whole war in detail and has orders of battle. The osprey is one of the best from that publisher IMHO with cracking illustrations and a decent summary. Both should be easy to find.

Apart from the 2nd Independent Cavalry Brigade, consisting of the 51st and 52nd Dragoons, you mean?

I have quite a few books on the RJW. Tumbling Bear is a good one.  I also have a photographic history book full of great pictures but I cannot recall the title and as it was "borrowed" by a fellow LAFer a good few years ago (wasn't it James ;D) I cannot look it up
