The Warlord "Cast to Order" metal figs. Two five-man squads, a crew served weapon and a three-man Command squad. I mean I like 'em, but I don't like 'em that much.

I wasn't aware of that.  Does that mean that the price will go down if BGOA takes off and they go to mass production?

I can't help but notice that there aren't any plastic kits in the line that would make it easy for someone to jump into this new game at a lower price point.

Its because standard metal sculpts are cheaper to produces than plastic kits. Especially as they cast there own.

The Kev White Merc captain for the game is an awesome sculpt. I've not seen the race for me so far. For this game They had a pretty cool board and the Derby show back in October.

Yep, I'm very aware of the cheap startup costs for metals.

I was just pointing toward two things.  First, the oddity of such high prices from a company that makes such otherwise reasonably priced minis.  It's not as though this is a licensed product or a setting that already has a big following.   Second, for a game that seems to be of a scope similar to Bolt Action, and a company that is trying to break into the sci-fi market it is a bit odd that there isn't a plastic starter set.  Of course I could be getting a bit ahead of things, maybe they'll surprise us with just such a set when the rules reach their completed state.

These figures are really big and some of them, as the mercenary captain, are very good. But they are not cheap, and you need some of them because the five man squads die really fast!
I expect Warlord Games put better prices for them in the future because, I think, we don´t need another Games Workshop.

I paid the extra scratch for the Kev White hansa nairobi fella. Pricey but worth it for an unusual and high-quality character fig, and I get inflation, cost-of-doing-business, etc, but not that kind of coin for regular five-man squads. Again, they're new and different but not that nice, IMO.

I have a full set of metal Tau Pathfinders I picked up on eBay that are as good/better sculpts and cheaper .

Tau Figs are quite nice and translate well into settings not-GW.  I had the metal pathfinders for some time and I can attest that they are nice figs.

There really isn't a game at this point to jump into...

Once they publish an actual rulebook I'm sure it'll be supported by a more competetively priced miniatures launch.

Right now it's time to bleed the suck... early adopters dry.

They currently have the Beta rules for free download if any one is interested.

I downloaded those.  To be fair to Warlord. The rules look very well done with very high production values. It is a beta, but it has the look of a ready-to-go product.
