Doc Ock and Nocturn look odd as blondes.
Looking for a set of rules that adaptable for different genres.

My favorite of the bunch is Doom, but that Spider-Woman looks great too. Good to see another clix modder around. :D

Some sculpts are pretty awful, but there really are some good sculpts among the Heroclix if you look. I've only tried stripping the paint from one once and it was amazing how much detail was lost under that heavy paint job. The biggest trouble with stripping the paint is that you need acetone and it's NASTY stuff.

i did strip my first bunch - i think 5 figs- using acetone and a toothbrush.  the figures underneath are really nice but i found when i painted them there was little difference between the ones I had stripped and the ones I hadn't.  With so many to do (and with so little patience!!  lol) I went for the straight undercoat and repaint.
The ones I stripped were wasp, hercules, spiderman, kingpin and pyro.  It ate pyro a little and I think I felt a bit uninspired when it came to painting him and he turned out the worst of the bunch - so much so that I might get another version of him if and when I order some more.
I have just undercoated my sentinel model in order to repaint him.  I have to admit being a little daunted by the size of the model but have a scenario idea for him so will just have to push on.  I will post the results when he's done.
regards,
chris

I've found that it is worth it in some cases to strip the paint off the faces.  They sometimes use that thick goopy flesh tone paint that's intended for one coat coverage of faces and skin. Since the face is such a focal point and may have fine detail under the glop, I get out the acetone and toothbrush in that case.

Otherwise (For whatever it's worth), I agree that stripping is not usually worth the bother.

Hadn't thought of just doing the face. Would the thick paint not leave a ridge line?

I use a q-tip to apply the acetone to the face, and then work the paint off with a toothbrush if needed.  You can use a little more acetone to feather the transition between the painted and stripped surfaces.  I've never had a problem with a visible ridge.
