Repairing broken 6mm?
« on: December 16, 2014, 11:02:58 PM »
Hello all, I recently bought a batch of Onslaught 'not' sisters of battle including their seraphim. Beautiful models, but one particular pose is launching off the floor on one foot and two of these became stressed in shipping and in trying to correct them they've completely broken. The rest are on the way.

I'm wondering what the best way would be to repair them given that they are so small - far too small for pinning I think especially with my ham fists. I'm wondering if 2 part epoxy would stand the test of time but then the question is securing such a tiny join whilst drying...

Any tips or miracle cures appreciated!

I'd 100% give up on them. Trying to glue surface area of a single 6mm scale figure's foot is just asking for trouble.

Use some green stuff or whatever to sculpt exhaust plumes from their jump packs that reach the ground.  Use those to support the models.

Plastic 6mm infantry can be fixed with solvent/plastic-weld quite well.

Metal 6mm infantry... Snap a few pix, send them to the store/person you bought them from, and politely ask for replacements. You can glue them, but chances are good you'll be repairing them repeatedly.  :?

Then again, if you can find a use for them "off" the base, like Billchuck's idea above, or perhaps mounted on a vehicle, or even as "life-size" statues on a shrine or such, they can still be useful.

Take a photo? I might have a suggestion but without knowing the model, etc.

There she is, with an unbroken for comparison. Looking at it again I can see the foot is almost tapered to a point so I'm not hopeful :/

I might have a go at sculpting the jets though...I'm generally not a fan of effects on minis but it's a shame to waste such a nice sculpt...

Thanks for the suggestions!

File the foot flat and drill a small hole into the base. Use a razor saw to cut a couple mm into the leg from the bottom. Pin it through the hole and slot. When the glue is dry, a tiny dab of putty will fill the slot, or just paint it, the damage probably won't be noticeable.

Yeah, I think you can pin that, though you'd have to use a very fine bit and be careful.

Do you base these up then?  I'd just superglue it, and zap it.

Looking at the pic, you *might* get away with a pin. Depends on how long you want to spend repairing them though - I still think it's best to just get the half dozen models or whatever replaced.

Pin the broken ones together via the jump packs, so that they look like they are taking off in formation.
