a long way home
« on: December 22, 2014, 07:59:39 AM »
inspired as I have been by Amalric's 'Thor's journal', I have started my long planned and long procrastinated 'all things zombie' campaign.  There is a brief introduction on my blog and the first bat rep will be posted soon.
I hope you find something of interest.
Here are the main cast members,

more details on my blog

Chris,
Excellent Batrep and painting!
I look forward to seeing Sam's adventures in the new zombie filled world he's found himself in.
Thanks for posting the pics and the AAR.

I've always got plenty of time for an ATZ campaign, I actually prefer reading the batreps to playing them myself!

I like how you've painted the Sam mini, the blue is a little bit different and really stands out. A Birmingham cop in the USA, I wonder what they'd think of the custodian helmet!

Episode two was great, lucky nothing bad happened to the Ladies.
But you're right, it will soon turn nasty.
I look forward to the continuing saga and am wondering how Sam's day goes.

thanks for reading episode 2 - i didn't post the link here as nothing really happened :D
Sam's day is the subject of episode 3.  Hopefully it shouldn't be too far in the future.

Very cool AAR and pics, looking forward to see the whole campaign unfold.

As I really like the THW system I'm a little bit curious how you decide the rating in the expanded Stats? I had a quick look and couldn't figure it out, or is it more or less an arbitrary value?

Ex. Shooting (I believe it should take into account not only your shooting skill, but using it in hostile/ lethal situations. Just because you're an ace at the range, doesn't necessarily make you a killer...)

3- Standard citizen with none to little familarity with guns
4- Trained marksman, self-defensive shooting, police/ military training.
5- Extensive experience of using lethal force
6- Killed just about anything that walks or crawls at one time or another  ;)

there was no big plan as to the expanded stats, just a desire that not every roll depended on the same number, and I tried to give a bit of variety to help create an interesting character.  I agree that being a good shot doesn't necessarily mean that you would have the desire to use the skill in a lethal manner.   I think that my main character may need to develop a more lethal edge if he is to survive!
I have painted a few reinforcements for my survivors (a couple of pics below :) ) and the next episode should be written up over the next couple of days.  thoughts are always appreciated.

thanks for looking,
regards,
chris

Very nice additions, Hasslefree's are very suitable aren't they  ;)?

Thanks for that response, I might "borrow" the expanded stats idea. Probably doing Morale, Shoot, Melee, People, (Drive), Fitness, Tech, because 7 is a magic number  :D.

nice set of stats - 7 is a good number  :) .  Would morale be the general 'initiative' stat when characters aren't doing anything else? (Stand in for normal rep score?)

I have played the previous incarnation of ATZ and SGS extensively and am quite happy with using REP only, I really enjoy the THW system.

BUT, saying that, your post has made me musing a little, seven might be a bit much (more isn't necessary better) but I think the diverse stats will actually have impact on the game, not only window dressing.

Yes, Morale would be the "stand-in" for REP for activation and taking psyche tests (See the Feast...) I just thought it fitted my idea better than Leadership, but doing the same thing.

I will post my musings here as well. Stay tuned and thanks for the idea  :D.

Hi Chris
Just read your reports and enjoyed them both. I think even the 2nd one where nothing really happened is still good, there is always the tension when playing the game, because you never know how things will turn out.

I have done a similar thing to you, using various attributes instead of just the Rep, playing solo it means that with a simple dice roll against an attribute the figure tends to make decisions without too much influence from you, all adds to the uncertainty.

Keep up the reports.

Thanks
John

I will, thank you.  Am typing up the third one today but they take longer to write up than they do to play!! :o
I like the more varied stats (not an idea I can claim as my own) as they give the characters a little more...well...character!
