Here's my latest piece of painting - a Dark Sword Miniatures hero to lead my LoTR Elves. The model has been converted with the addition of a GS mail shirt under the plate armour and also a shield. I did this because the original model, brilliant though it is, didn't look quite 'military' enough.

I painted him in my usual style and I have to confess that he was the hardest thing I have painted in ages! The detail on these Dark Sword minis is incredibly fine and, as such, isn't really suited for 'dip & highlight' stuff. Nonetheless, I persevered and here we are... Not the best model I ever painted, but still a worthwhile addition to the collection and suitably 'heroic' as well! No rear views as I realised when I took the pics that I had splodged blue paint onto his left arm's mail sleeve!! This is now fixed, but I haven't had time to get the camera back out. I will try to take some rear view pics as the cloak sculpting really is superb!

Anyway, here he is...hope you like him! Apologies for size of pics...must remember to reduce next time!

The latest Elvin Hero looks as WONDERFUL as his Comrades in Arms...SPLENDID brushwork & an OUTSTANDING base. VERY WELL DONE!

Very nice mini!
The freehand on the belt cloth is impressive.
The color scheme is very interesting too, that purple works very well with that blue. It's not something i'd have tried, but you managed to nail it.

I'm surprised a Dark Sword mini scales up smoothly with GW Lotr ones, the few I have are really on the big size of 28mm.

Awesome work!  I agree, they're definitely detailed miniatures.  Normally on the large size too, but he looks to be about the right size.  Is it a good fit or deceptive because of the base he is on?

He does scale very well with the Elves, but that's probably because the metal and finecast Galadhrim are slightly larger than some other models in the LOTR range.

Thanks for the kind comments. I have 6 more Elves (metal swordsmen) on the painting table and 20 more 'EBAY purchased painted but need tarting up' Orcs and Uruk Hai lurking not far behind, although I have just been distracted by my ongoing Colonial project so it may be a week or two before either the Elves or Orcs appear on here...
