Maybe it's not a period for me, but these look great.
How do these rules work as I am thinking about the 1859 period

Lovely looking game - did the rules work for you and give the feel of the period?
I'm a bit fan of NT's other rules, especially the ancient and medieval sets.

Thanks for all the comments chaps.

Re. The rules

IGOGO turns
Inf & Cav units have four bases, skirmishes three & Art one.
A base is removed after receiving four hits and when failing morale tests.
Usual formations and movement conventions except lines with the exception of British do not move although they can turn, pivoting on the centre of the unit.
Formation changes are done at the start of the turn and do not effect movement.
Infantry are in loose or close order depending on nationality in the various periods.
Firing is done per base, the formation it is firing in and the targets formation and order determining the score required to hit.
Close combat is similar, but you get more dice per base depending on your opponent.
Morale is based on your troops class, Levy ect.
There is no Command and Control though there is an option to have units in command based on a dice throw on your CO' s rating as to how many units are in command, those not in command can only move half and fire at half effect.
That's the basics really, quite straight forward and easily tweaked. You may no agree with Neil's reasoning on how the rules work, but he put puts forward valid arguments as to why he does things the way he does.
The only things I really did for the Carlist War is to add Rockets and squares, Neil reasons that the extra dice you get in close combat in column negates this, whilst you are rifle armed this might be the case but I think troops with smoothbores still
need this formation.

Yup, just added a couple of things, otherwise they give me the feel for the Carlist War, certainly more than BP does, I have not used them for other wars but they look the part.

Cheers guys.

I agree that Neil's rules are a well thought out and well explained - and that you can and should tweak to get the feel for the specific setting you want. I'd love 19th C armies to field and am just waiting on Footsore to get their FPW range ready for that very reason. The Carlist War looks soooo inviting though!
