Ancient German command figures for Hail Caesar
« on: December 25, 2014, 02:01:50 AM »
Ok I'm finishing off a good sized 28mm Ancient German army for Hail Caesar. But I need about 3 or 4 command bases. I'm thinking of getting some Wargames Foundry Heroes such as AG1/2 with some standards AG1/7.

http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/our-ranges/ancients/german/ancient-german-heroes-collection-bcag001/

But I have those figures already all through my warbands. Can anyone steer me towards impressive looking German command figures that may be appropriate? Thanks for any suggestions.

Check the Warlord ancient germans command figures.
They are very nice.

Also Black Tree Designs have some suitable figures for leaders, however they dont have standards.
They mix well with foundry and warlord.

All good suggestions and I did the same for Germans being used as Bastarnae in my Pontic and Dacian armies.   I was also stumped for command figures and decided to see what was on offer in Gripping Beast - http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php?CatID=264 as well as Musketeer now Footsore - http://footsoreminiatures.co.uk/

Quite a few figures there might be suitable (heroes of the viking age, arthurian, early saxon and the like) - mixed in with say standards from Foundry, shortage of German horn players is a problem (Warlord includes 1 in their Command pack).   Planning to give these 'heroes' Germanic shields or captured Roman ones.   The figures are larger than Foundry and quite imposing.

May get some of the Foundry German cavalry as Bastarnae as well.

Good luck

Garry

Also check for Eureka miniatures on a small range of Beowulf.
You have a german standard bearer and a hornblower (more like a carinx).
They also mix well with foundry.

Here's a link to the Beowulf range.  Some fine command types in there indeed:

Crusader have a command pack: http://www.crusaderminiatures.com/prod.php?prod=663&cat=1&sub=46&page=1 Figures don't look very exciting for a command, but are otherwise nice enough sculpts. The horn blower at least is very handy due to the shortage of them out there. Should hopefully mix in OK with Foundry.

Crusaders Champions and Chieftains pack: http://www.crusaderminiatures.com/prod.php?prod=664&cat=1&sub=46&page=1  Again there are more exciting looking figures out there for command figures, but they are well sculpted.

Just looking at the Eureka stuff. The standard bearer and musician look good, and would fit in well. Beowulf and the guy in the furs with the big axe would also fit in nicely, and are both very nice looking sculpts. The Great thegn-bare-chested strongman I think would fit in well also, his helmet looks very much caesarean to me.

Anyway on the whole nice sculpts, I can see myself using some of these in my 'Arthurian' Saxon army.

Thanks for the Crusader heads up:

Unfortunately,  the GB, Eureka and Musketeer miniatures, are a bit too late for an ancient German army. But they will eventually make their way as Gothic enemies/allies for my Late Romans. (Wow, that bare chested guy is a brute!)

Thanks for the suggestions.
