Hover Scout Car
« on: September 11, 2008, 02:22:30 PM »
Hi guys, just a quick heads-up on a little vehicle I cobbled together yesterday, a hover scout car.

Made from plasticard, cut using a paper model template from the web, with the front and side skirts covered in Revell putty. I´ll use it for sci-fi, so it won´t get a true "pulpendeutschen" paint scheme, but the general idea and stilistic source of inspiration is pretty obvious, I think.

Any suggestions are welcome. Note please that the front skirt is not as rough as it looks in the photos. Nonetheless, that Revell putty is a total bitch to apply and sand. Apply and sand. Repeat like in that Karate kid movie. And still it´s a bit uneven, but since I like cast steel surfaces, I´ll leave it as is.

The underside is detailed as well, with a large fan in front and smaller ducts in the rear - however since most of it is plastic, you can´t see that much detail now. I´ll add a shot once I´ve painted it.

That's pretty cool.  I know what you're going for with the cast-steel look, but it still looks a little too rough.  Or rather, the roughness could be too easily mistaken for being unfinished instead.  How about some vertical plasticard plates around the curve of the front?  I think that would look cool and would make the roughness seem more "by-design."  Or perhaps some weld lines?

Right folks, it isn´t yet completely finished - I´ll add the flying base and two antennae, but since my camera batteries went dead tonight (after using them for some months), I´ll have to reload them first. More pics tomorrow.

I painted it to go with the Alterra 1 figures. I like the scheme more and more.

Very good chris  :-*

Particularly like the skirting where you did the putty. Looks well used and chafed.

Cool :D

Very nice. A nice change from the WWW2 walkers that everyone seems to want.

Too bad I´m too much of a wuss to take it up with Mr. Yokoyama and Hobby Japan´s lawyers... X-D

Seriously, since it is an almost exact copy of the Sandstalker, I decidedly refrained from doing so. Although a squadron of those would be nice, indeed.

Great stuff! Cool Anime-ish paintjob too. Would go great with the maK gladiator I bet.
