Another Game of Mayhem...This Time With a Live Opponent
« on: January 04, 2015, 10:53:30 PM »
After over a year of no gaming at all  :(, I have finally managed to get a game in and with a live opponent rather than having to play solo.

You can read the make-up of the armies at http://tenmilwargames.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/at-last-another-game-whoopee.html
and the actual AAR is at http://tenmilwargames.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/a-fight-to-death.html

The more I play Brent Spivey's Mayhem Fantasy rules, the more I like them, and I think I have now got a convert in my opponent - my son.
If you like playing for fun, I can't recommend these highly enough.
I don\'t know whether to be a good example or a horrible warning.

Doing better than me - I'm still looking forward to my first game of Mayhem...

Looking forward to it even more, now! Nice report. I liked the sound of the to-and-fro, and the necessary consideration of just where and when to put your giant. :) Have you thought of just using the existing unit rules for that, next time? I imagine a terror-causing behemoth with some kind of short-range shooting to represent club-swinging and rock-lobbing.

Nice beagles, too. :D Where did you get those?

Thanks Vermis

Yes, my son has sussed out that he played the giant wrong.
The 'beagles' are from East Riding Miniatures - http://shop.eastridingminiatures.co.uk/fa5-763-p.asp

Great game! Thanks for sharing. :)

Yes, the giant works best if you use the ranged strike with a club or a boulder as your main attack. You'll be doing d6 damage against most enemies and rolling a d4 against behemoths and other monstrous creatures. You could go on quite the little rampage with just 6 command points. However, once your giant gets surrounded... :-[

Keep in mind as well that if you stay at range with your giant that you get more value out of its terror trait. It makes your opponent have to either spend valuable command points to engage you or take a risk and roll the dice.  ;)

Like Vermis said, you can always use the behemoth profile mixed with various traits and abilities to produce all manner of creatures. This will let you customize the monster to your liking. This option is also great if you want to create an army that features multiple giants or dragons.

Thanks, Brent.

I'm loving the beagles too!
And thanks for that too. Who needs Crufts when you can get such affirmation on Lead Adventure!  :D
I like to throw in the occasional oddity just to give a bit of variety to my armies.
