Thanks guys. He was lots of fun to do, but because he only had a single item of clothing, I was stuck in a dilemma about what colour to make it! I guess with such a simple model I probably over-thought the designs a tad (that shield could easily have just been bare wood, too).

Next time I might do a couple of rust-red fellas.

Exceptional painting of a great old Citadel mini.

Hats off to you sir.

Some more indulgent fun inbetween the paying work and a wonderful way to reconnect with the old game I loved as a kid.

Here's one of my all time favourite Citadel models, surely on the shortlist of best orc models ever, the Citadel Orc Bodyguard.

Here we see the mighty army of vintage Citadel Orcs so far. Enough to strike terror into any small hamlet (or village if everyone's a little under the weather).

I know the green one doesn't really go, but he was painted as a test model years ago and I'll be jiggered if I'm going to repaint him now. I might just redo the eyes ... the red glow is just sooo last decade.

That is very very nice! Love the muted colours, and sharp finish.

Amazing model, really one of the best, and the painting job is beautiful. Very impressive, Paul.

These are superb! The way you've brought to life the extreme underbite of the first one is wonderful. The shields are terrific too.

On a side note: I have the orc bodyguard (recently bathed in Dettol), but he's missing his mace. I was looking for a replacement, and it struck me that this figure shows how much better fantasy figures look with realistically sized weapons. That mace would be very large if scaled up to full size, but not ludicrously so. It's hard to say the same about any recent GW stuff (just look at the Age of Sigmar figures!).

You've done  a great job with your painting, Cubs. They all have a lot of character, and your subtle brushwork really suit them. I love the Oldhammer look--in my opinion they are so much more appealing than the recent GW stuff, with its ridiculous weapons, endless skulzz and hyper detail. I wish GW would re-release all the 80s and 90s sculpts once again! (Not that I'm expecting this any time soon, mind...)

Thanks guys, they've been done in very slow stages for the last couple of months, just sitting patiently at the back of the desk as other projects take priority. I felt sorry for them, so dusted them off and put the finishing touches to them at last.

I reckon 1:32 medieval toy soldiers weapons would probably be about right. Maybe keep an eye out in a cheapo shop?

Thanks - good idea! I have some of those in the attic, I think. My main concern is avoiding something too big.
