Pulp Alley: Star Wars episode 5.5
« on: January 08, 2015, 12:47:34 PM »
A Pulp Alley game I played with my 9 year old son a little while ago in a galaxy not so far away...

Boba Fett flies over Tatooine, intent on delivering Han Solo's carbon-frozen body to Jabba the Hutt. En route to Jabba's palace, the Slave 1 develops carburetor problems and Boba is forced to put down. He continues towards Jabba's palace on foot. Along the way, he picks up an escort of Sandtroopers.

Unfortunately, the most of the Sandtroopers' armour is at the cleaners. They cobble together a range of other, less aridly inclined armour and sally forth.

Even more unfortunately, they are spotted by a ship searching for the frozen body of Han Solo. Soon, their delivery mission becomes a little trickier.

Boba Fett must get Solo to the opposite corner of the table.

Another roadblock for a tradesman just trying to do an honest day's work.

Chewie and Lando proceeded to blast troopers (Sand, Storm and Snow) as they advanced.

Luke decided to wade in before the others bagged all the easy ones.

No surprises about the outcome there!

With most of the peons out of the way, the first real gunfight breaks out. Crafty intergalactic bounty hunter versus large mound of shagpile carpet.

That went well.

While Luke continues to carve and slice, one of the troopers makes a break for it, popsicle in tow.

Only to be chased down by the Wookie!

Who will triumph in this titanic struggle...

Yes, well, I tried to add some tension and uncertainty.

However, one bounty hunter remains on the table, wounded but unbowed. If he can break from the clutches of the Jedi, he can still grab his frozen treat and, with it, victory.

Sigh. At least it's better than being gummed by a Sarlacc.

I have loads of those figures. I based some of them, then couldn't think of anything to do with them :? Perhaps I need to revist them, because that looks like a lot of fun :)

The big problem with them was that there are Clone Wars figures and New Era figures, but not really full sets from both, ie no New Era rebels and no Clone Wars droids...

Which Falcon is that? I have the falcon and AT-AT from the same range, always thought it would be fun to have them on the table with these figures, just to keep everything "consistent"

For all I know this is your kids collection, but those pre paint really look like they could use a dip. Army painter does well on bendy and soft stuff in my experience. (which I assume these are) They appear to have some nice detail despite the style but a lot of it looks to get lost in the flat paint.

What a hoot.

Maybe, but I feel it adds to the cuty charm of these figures. The tokens enhance the effect too. And remember he's playing with a nine year old...  ;)

And it looks like a whole lot of fun too :) Great stuff...

The figures are part of the Hasbro Star Wars Fighter Pods range

There have been several "series", with loads of characters available, as well as some vehicles (the Millenium Falcon is in the set linked to). They cover the Clone Wars cartoon show and the movies. Sadly, there is a Jar Jar Binks figure :'(

I'm not sure if they have abandoned the product, but I've bought most of my figures from Poundstretchers, which is hardly a "thing of the moment" store. As well as the painted versions, they do holographic versions of each character. Great figures, although I still haven't figured out an in-game use for them.

The R2D2 model is just about 28mm scale, which is a nice bonus :)

I've thought about doing a display game for newbies with green army men for years, this is a much better idea. To the toy store!  ;D

Glad you all enjoyed it! We both did. Especially my son, as he won!

I've put the character cards on my fledgling blog if you're interested: http://preacherbyday.blogspot.com.au/2015/01/star-wars-pulp-alley-character-cards.html

Which Falcon is that?

It's the Revell Snap-tite Falcon: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Millennium-Falcon-Model/dp/B0013J5QQ0/ref=sr_1_4?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1420767744&sr=1-4&keywords=millenium+falcon

I have thought about giving them a paint, but they are soft and bendy and I am a bit reluctant to invest the time on a dodgy material.

I'll be along in a bit!

Sadly, there is a Jar Jar Binks figure :'(

Make him a target for both sides, or do what we do in our normal pulp games. We have a black cat that wanders randomly and attaches itself to whoever it runs into. From then on, anyone else can make them reroll one good dice per turn. Make Jar Jar the black cat!

I think I may have that Falcon in the loft. I hadn't realised it had landing gear, so I'll definitely have another look

I like that idea - not just with Jar Jar, but in general. Consider it stolen :D
