thank you a lot

yesterday I received my Osprey portuguese wars reference book, and I started painting this afternoon !

I should have finished the skin paint work tonight (really interesting subject, painting black skin in small scale miniature modelling), I'll post pics as soon as possible.

Here's painting first stages. I painted the black skin on the group, I still have a bit of work (black lining and a few fixes), but concerning the skin itself, it's done.

The difficulty was to find the balance between dark tone and tabletop "visibility". I choosed warm brown tones for it, just darkened with a deep blue wash on the beginning (after dark base coat).

I took the "less bad pics". Very difficult to take photos of this, especially during night !

One of the minis really look like Moe in Simpsons cartoon, by the way  lol

Painting is gently progressing !

I made a few "vintage camo" experiments too on these african irregulars, it will be some usefull knowledge for portuguese regulars.

Hi,

Here's current state of progress. I still have to paint weapons details, shoes, hair, and of course, bases.

This painting work is progressing really slowly. Next time, I'll do the same I did for my talibans force : building the figures, and then group them in painting groups.

I hope to finish this group before the end of the week, then I'll work a bit on the portuguese side of the project, since I received the last minis I needed to complete my forces.

Thank you both a lot !

The figures are completed. I still need to varnish them (they are a bit shiny for now) and finish the bases. I made some grass home made flock so I can make a bit more polished bases than I usually do.

Tommorow I'll do final daylight pics, and then I'll work on the portuguese. I will probably make a small african scenery break first.

Varnishing is done, with spray matte varnish (Pebeo acrylic varnish for arts tableaux). I really like this spray varnish, it improves the figures "resolution" (see the leader camo pants improvement), and keep the black and dark...dark  :D

The figures are easy to recognize, even from a far point of view, and despite the dark skin tone. I'm very happy of my conversion work, it's really satisfying when an idea (not the idea of transforming these vietnamese in africans, wich is not my idea, but the idea of changing the style to an heroic "metal-ish" one) become a final good result.

Tonight I'll paint the bases, and add the grass.  Pics following are taken from the figures drying outside in the garden, very sunny day here !

Great skin tones. I painted some 15mm Maori last year, and I know how hard it is to make the skin tones look good at this scale.
