British HMG Platoon. First Foray Into 15mm and WW2
« on: January 08, 2015, 03:03:53 AM »
Finished painted a British late war HMG team for flames of war yesterday. First painted miniatures of the year and first 15mm and ww2 models. Sadly I've discovered that in a few places paint seems to have chipped off. I don't want to break out the paints just to correct a few tiny areas so these will be fixed when I paint my next infantry platoon.

Not to sure on the basing of them either tbh. Any tips or criticism feel free to share.

These guys will be supporting the 53rd welsh rifles platoon I will be aiming to paint up.

Nice and your basing is fine. Lucky to get so many prone figures in the pack.

I like them. You can break up the basing by adding shorter lengths of static grass. In future just use the shorter lengths, or add clumps of the ones you've used here.

So are you saying don't use the big clumps in the future?

Sparingly. These are 15mm, so you'll need shorter lengths (funnily enough half as long) to match the look you're achieving on your 28mm miniatures.

You're also trying to match the terrain of southern Europe in 1945ish, so ensure you're keeping that in mind when basing (that said, being generic also works).

Lovely job! But those big clumps say 'Falklands' more than Normandy to me! Perhaps a little similar shaded static grass around them would make them less 'affro' like?

Thanks guys that helps a lot. I honestly just used what I had because I can't afford to buy other basing materials ATM. What I may do is just paint the future ones as pure mud and then add decent flocking and clumps later when I have the cash.

Not going for Normandy btw, holland. But I can't imagine the terrain being to different for the two places.
