I've watched the first two while I have been painting and have quite enjoyed it so far.

It has opened my mind to gaming the War but with my sole focus not being just on the Alamo.

Is there any glaring errors in the series?

Not seen it yet but the reviews have been very unkind saying the terrain is all wrong. (It was filmed in Mexico, not Texas) and the Texians are incorrectly dressed and didn't sport facial hair in the 1830s.

Apparently they have taken massive liberties with history to make the story work, but its the first time the Goliad Massacre has been filmed and its not often you see any drama based on the Teaxs wars beyond the Alamo.

So I will patiently await the DVD to enjoy it for what it is. :)

PS I'm a firm believer in there being so much to game in the Texas Revolution beyond the Alamo: Skirmishes with Mexican cavalry, street fighting/ the seige in San Antonio, the Goliad Massacre, San Jacinto, The "Come and Take it Canon", no to mention run ins with the Apaches and the Comanche. :D ;D

The terrain looked nothing like South-Central Texas. For one thing, it's not a desert, and I got a laugh about a caption in the first episode that read, "30 miles East of San Antonio", and there were mountains on the screen.

I only really watched about half of the first episode before losing interest, but I noticed they appeared to portray Santa Ana as a homicidal psychopath, which is bound to be a popular stance with those who buy into the usual myths surrounding the Texas Revolution. I tend to think of him more as a self-absorbed, incompetent political animal, but to each his own.

After the war, there were several incursions by Mexican forces, as well as incursions into Mexico by "filibusters" trying to provoke a war with the US. I think all of these are good game fodder, though they tended to be fairly small engagements.

I never knew it was your range mate. Ill send you on some pics with the flags on them. I will no doubt buy more if i can get someone else on board. After seeing the amount of battles on horse it has opened my eyes beyond the Alamo :)

Any suggestions on small scale rules? Im thinking Sharpe Practice or Muskets and Tomahawks.

Pick up a copy of Texian Iliad on Amazon by Stephen Hardin. It's a great read and details the whole Texas Revolution with all of the smaller skirmishes described in detail. Its very atmospheric and inspiring for this period.

I use Sharp Practice with very few changes. It's perfect for larger than life characters like Crockett or Bowie. :)

I have just ordered this as I hav not read much on the period and all the skirmish options appeal..
If the result is that I end up bankrupting myself buying more BH minis then I am gonna have to send the boys round.

Send the boys around?  Presumably to collect the vast quantity of lead you will be ordering to save on the postage i guess?  :D

Your figures make it very tempting I just need to clear some of the existing lead pile before I can justify picking any up  :D
