Best Pulp rules for solo play?
« on: January 14, 2015, 12:32:33 AM »
Looks like if I am ever going to play pulp games it'll be by myself.  So...which rules do you suggest for solo play?  Thanks!

Pulp Alley, of course. I've played lots of solo Pulp Alley games and I like the way the random perils and challenges work. There are many solo Pulp Alley games posted in the AAR Archive. Katsuhiko JiNNai has been posting a lot of solo scenarios lately - http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=54250.0

If you're used to solo play, you'll probably see the solo potential right away but Dad also put together a one page guide for Pulp Alley solo games.

TwoHourWargames will soon release the new edition of their pulp game, Larger Than Life along a scenario book.
Like all THW games, it's made for solo, cooperative and competitive play.

I never tried Pulp Alley, but judging by the various AARs seen here, it looks like a very exciting game as well.

I'd say Larger than life too, since like other THW games, is focused on solo and coop gaming ;)

"Best" seems somewhat subjective. I suspect it may have more to do with personal tastes. Personally, I've played most of the pulp games and my favorite by far is Pulp Alley. It is an all around brilliant set of rules and works perfectly for solo play.

I never played solo games, so the first time I tried it I was doubtful.  :-X
So I was surprized when I enjoyed my first solo game with Pulp Alley. Seem that the rules of PA seem fine for solo games too.
I've played about 7 solo games (the last two are from a campaign still working ) and certainly I will play more PA Solo Games ;)

PS: Not just solo games for me. I played my first game with a real player last time too ;)

I enjoy Two Hour Wargames Larger than Life and Adventures in Lost Lands.  I cook up a lot of my own scenario generators to add flavor.
