It's...



Bookshelves!



Perhaps not as interesting or dynamic as a dragon, but still necessary, especially when fighting to reclaim a lost city.



Even the backs brush up pretty well on these things.



Yup, it's more wood. Not sure what else you want me to say about that.



And where would shelves be without books to put on them?



I think the symbol on the orange book was supposed to be a flame, but it kind of got away from me.



The pages were tough to paint, but it was worth it.



100% the words on those books on the left a praise for other books the author wrote.



It's just...so pretty to have them set up.

The set is wizkids' archivist library. There were a few issues, like one of the smaller shelves needing to be reset so it sat flush against the sides and the drawers needed to be shaved down a bit to fit properly...which I overdid, so I had to repair them with some green stuff. At three feet, they look fine.

I'd originally hoped to buy this set when I got my first library job, but the shop I saw it in sold out before I got the chance...and then just before Christmas last year, I found it in another shop! It was satisfying to finally paint it up and overall, I'd recommend it if you need something quick to fill a room (or you just want to paint books).

It's Tehenhauin, high priest of Sotek!



The last time this guy was on sale, I was between jobs. This time, back in June, I was filling in for story time at work, so I had money to spare.



I've always enjoyed his story as well. At the height of the skaven's invasion of Lustria, it was Tehenhauin who revealed the singular plaque that mentioned Sotek by name. Of course, since he was only mentioned once, the Slann disregarded it as being less important...until Tehenhauin led a huge contingent of skinks to slaughter the skaven until a volcano erupted and killed the rest of the rats as they tried to escape (although some say a few managed to get away). Since then, Sotek (the only one of the lizardmen gods to actually do anything since Chaos arrived) has been worshiped in every city.



Nothing like an underdog story to warm the heart (unless you're a skaven).



Eh walk it off, you'll be fine!

The model is GW's Tehenhauin. Overall, it was pretty fun to paint this one. There were a few fiddly bits (and I've just noticed a couple of bits on the rim I missed twice somehow) but keeping the plaque separate until the end saved me a heck of a lot of trouble. I had to play 'is this guts or snakes' a couple of times and a couple of snakes have random spikes that I didn't snip off earlier, but I like how it turned out.

Now, I only have one thing left to paint...and it's a big 'un!

Told ya he was big!



Roughly translated this Slann mage priest's name means, 'reaches for the stars.'



Unlike other Slann, this one takes a comparatively active role in the lives of mortals, tweaking the threads of fate to ensure that someone is right where they need to be to stop a chaos plot either deliberately, or just by moving their cabbage cart at just the right time.



Whenever this slann needs to appear in person, he is carried by his loyal temple guard, to conserve as much magical power as possible.



You'd best keep on your toes, unless his gaze rests upon you.

The model is a Slann mage priest from GW. When it came up for special order last year, I jumped at the chance to get one. There were challenges of course, but overall it turned out pretty well.



Compared to the first one I painted when I was about fourteen, I'd say I've improved just a little bit.

Pete his poison frog colours are amazing, your blending between the colours came out really well.

And I love that comparison shot! What a side by side. 

Doing some research there's an old 80s way of gaming where you make your force and paint it, then never touch it again, so the models and paint style represent a time period. And you just game as it is. You even make a box to transport the force to ensure you don't add extra units which are more meta at the time. I like that.

I wish I didn't strip my old bret king.

To be fair, your bret king looks great and what were the odds that Geedubs were just going to ignore the brets for years and never give them an update? 



Looks like we have a scout on the borders of our camp, fellows.



This little fella gets sent out to observe travellers and work out their intentions.



You'd think the big ol' golden signs would be enough to keep people away, but here we are.



At least he's properly kitted out in case of trouble.

The model is...well it's made mostly from GW bits. Mostly stegadon spares and a couple of parts from the terradon/ripperdactyl kit, plonked on an mdf base I had sitting in my base box. It was a fun little project and it got me pumped up for what I'm working on now...

When the need is great enough (or if there's just not enough stegadons to go around) industrious skinks may find a way to use their ballistae on the ground.



Granted, their ability to turn is...slightly diminished, but you can't argue with the results!



The results are skewered rats for the most part.



This little kitbash comes to us mostly from a stegadon kit, but when I noticed I had a spare skink from the terradon kit hanging around in my spare bits, I figured, 'why not give him a friend?' I'd probably do things a little bit differently if I had the chance to do this again, but overall I'm pretty happy with the results...now, to take on a certain someone and his horsies....

Well, it finally happened; the forces of Chaos have left the seraphon with no other option than to bring out an Engine of the Gods.



Due to the volatile nature of these relics, only the most level-headed stegadons are chosen to carry them into battle.



It is fortunate indeed that this one is called, 'the calm one.'



Even though ruins abound in this area, it is clearly still worth protecting.



Such an ornery fellow.



The skink crew on top are dedicated to protecting the priest who knows exactly how to summon the arcane energies of the engine...more or less.



There may be a few worn pieces here and there, but it's still in working order.

The model is an Engine of the Gods, from GW. It's been a while since I did one of these and...hoo boy there were a few issues. There were gaps that were easy enough to fill in and I'm certainly glad I painted this thing in sub assemblies where I could, but this kit could probably do with a bit of an update.

Overall though, I did enjoy building and painting this fellow (and adding a few extra bits and bobs from my bitz box where I could) and given that it was the last thing sitting on my grey mountain, I'm glad that I kept it until last.

I'm back, and I brought a friend! This is Snorri.



Like many dwarves, Snorri lost his mountain home. He is not happy about this.



Nevertheless, he plans to take it back with the help of his mostly reliable companions.



He doesn't care how long it takes, Snorri will get it done.

This miniature is King Hildinger Gemwearer Lord Of The Sapphire Ridges from Medbury Miniatures. For a company that I hadn't known about beforehand, I'm loving what they have on offer. There was barely a hint of flash or mold lines on the main body (the axe was a bit different, but separate weapons are usually a tad fiddly at the best of times) and it just looks so nice now that he's all painted up. Honestly, you owe it to yourself to check out what they have on offer.

Orcs spotted on the eastern front!



These lads are known as Grabbit and Stabbit, two lads out for a good time.



Of course, with names like Grabbit and Stabbit, their idea of a good time tends to be a little different to the typical definition...



The models are GW's Killaboss with Stab Grot. Managed to pick them up for about nine bucks from MOAB this year, so I figure why not? I do slightly regret buying the ones that were prebuilt as opposed to the ones still on the sprue as it did make a few parts hard to reach, but overall they came out pretty well (even if my camera decided to be capricious and make focusing harder than it usually does).

Looks like we've got five new volunteers for dungeon delving: a spearman, a hunter, a noble, a miner in hi-vis and...an assassin with a shovel?



What do they seek? Gold? Glory? Greater quantities of beer?



Whatever the case, they're probably not all going to come back...



These lads are mostly made from an Oathmark sprue of dwarf light infantry that I bought from The War Library. The miner has a shield from an Ogre Ironguts kit that I bought years ago, back when the choices for miniatures near me was Warhammer...or Warhammer. We eat better nowadays.

The bases are also GW, but those I got much more recently (and I thought I was only getting half as many as I did, so now I have too many). The crossbow came from a pack of Ral Partha crossbows that I hoped would be more useful in games of Torch and Shield...although now that I've had a chance to play it, I won't be relying too heavily on ranged attacks! Overall, it was a fun little project.
