Unless cost is an issue (you will be paying for a bunch of camels you aren't going to need) I would use the Perry figures, as their uniforms and equipment are pretty much exactly right for what you want, whereas the Empress Zulu War figures have several little details that don't fit (tunic cuff lace, helmets without puggarees and lack of puttees for starters).

Cost is not an issue. I'm going to use the camels for making a model of a 7pdr Screw Gun being carried (North Star sell the guns on their lonesomeme for £4.)

Any spare camels will have normal baggage sculpted on.

The Camel Corps figures are separate castings to the camels, you will be pleased to hear. I just tried one out, and despite the fact they are designed to be mounted on camel models, they look okay when plonked on a horse. Might need a bit of filling here and there, but they don't look out of place.

That's grand......  8)

You just know that the minute you have finished the Perry twins will bring out some M.I. on mounts. That kind of thing always happens to me when I do conversions!  :)

I would not be surprised for one moment! I'll still have the camel train carrying the guns as consolation though  :D :)

Thanks again,
Darrell.

The Perry's don't do mounted versions and I will need to convert six of them.
Darrell.

I'm with you on that one, I've been emailing them from time to time for over two years requesting MI mounted on shaggy ponies, to no avail  :( Hoping and praying one day for some Egyptian camel corps, also camels with screw guns disassembled aboard and Gendarmerie

Yes I've seen it thanks, but unfortunately I'm a bit OCD about what goes into my collection, and since all my Sudan collection is Perry I'm trying to not buy Redoubt. I may have to give in one day if the Perrys don't revisit this period, but for now I live in hope! My only slip is the Fred Burnaby figure from Warlord which came with the Blood on the Nile book, and it took gritted teeth to put him in the same box as the others I can tell you! lol.

Oh now that's an idea.

I did some dismounted KRRC mounted infantry for the same campaign - happy my colours seem to be right from this thread.

I might pinch your idea to mount them up someday. Cheers!

And here are the basics; trimmed filed and given gentle coercion so's that they fit on their Egyptian nags.

All I really need to do now is use a tiny wee but of putty to fill in the backs of the legs on the puttees.

More can be seen and read on my Shooting Leave Blog, here:

Cheers,
