Blue foam available in NZ or Oz?
« on: January 25, 2015, 08:03:45 PM »
Do any of my fellow antipodeans (or anyone else for that matter) know where I can get blue foam, or the equivalent of it, here in NZ or perhaps even Australia? I have a hankering to do some building.

Thanks

I think you should be able to get it in Hardware stores - Someone asked recently on the NZ wargame forum.

Well, you could come over the puddle to OzLam2015, we are thinking of getting a blue foam order to divide up to attendees.

In Sydney you cannot get blue foam in hardware stores, it's white high density pre scored with deep channels every 50mm or so. :( but you can buy in bulk from a few places. I cannot seem to find 5-10mm thick foam, but can find 25ish mm foam.

Cheers
Matt.

Apparently Bunnings are now carrying it in 2 thicknesses.

I got some from Bunnings myself, but haven't seen it again.

I have the brand name somewhere here - it was a yellow/tan color.

I'm thinking Bunnings might be the answer. Expol seems to be the stuff I'm after.
Thank you LAF you are amazing (and all that specifically contributed here :) )

Will do. I looked on the Bunnings website and there is an XPS high density foam that is blue, muso it fits the bill nicely. Need to see in store if they have it though.

Ok the stuff that Bunnings sell is not as dense or as strong as blue foam.  I do know of a blue foam supplier in Moorabin but I am waiting on some details from someone else.  I'll keep you posted.

I recently got some 'blue' foam (actually it was yellow) for making terrain for CANCON. I had no luck with hardware stores and had to go to a speciality insulation supplier who looked at me very strangly when I asked to buy and single block. I have noticed a company selling the foam at MOAB and CANCON for wargaming, unfortunately I don't recall the name - someone else may know?

'Make my Model' was the stand your thinking of.

"Distributor to the hobby and modelling market for Dow (tm) Styrofoam and DCT XPS Extruded Polystyrene modelling foam"

You're a legend matt, shipping isn't too bad for over the ditch either.

Cheaper than attending OzLAM and having a blast, with a little extra carryon on the way home?  >:D

There's a hardware distributor in Cheltenham, Victoria that carries blue foam. Brunel Hobbies, also in Cheltenham carries bits but you need to inquire/order it in.

Tip: Brunel's just get there's as off cuts from the supplier, you can probably save yourself a bob or two by going direct to the supplier. I've yet to see it any any Bunnings or Masters in Vic and I have looked and asked.
