Overlord.... No longer the Brick King, he is now the Prince of Tyres ;)
Very good.  That actually made me laugh out loud.  lol

The foam has now been clad with various bits of plastic card, some of it given a distressed look:

Starting to build the tyre wall:

Much easier than engraving bricks into foam.....  ;)

Looking good Paul.

Did you engrave the grip onto the tyres though?  ;)
Don't!

No, I'm too slick for that.  It might have made for a more gripping read though....  :D

There was a winding mechanism for re-cocking the heavy crossbow mounted on the other side of the gateway:
That is what I was thinking of.  Why don't you sculpt that too?  There are only like twenty days left.   :D

Coming together nicely. Can't wait to see this in the flesh, hint, hint. ;)

I like your distressed plastic card.

Thanks Tony. Pretty easily done by cutting odd little bits out of the edge and scratching or punching small holes etc into it.

That is what I was thinking of.  Why don't you sculpt that too?  There are only like twenty days left.   :D

I am building the whole gateway, along with other bits in my "It's Alive" project thread:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=5332.30

As the gateway will be in separate parts I'm including just the side with the flamer in this contest.  I'm currently building the other half at the same time as this part.  The crossbow is on the list to do.

Nice - and I used that same textured sheet in my build.

The tyres turned out great, I like the different sizes of them.

The tyres came (mostly) from a farm toy set, and spares sold for Corgi/Dinky diecast cars.  They are around 19/20mm diameter. There are also a few from old 1/35 vehicle kits.  Although the Corgi/Dinky tyres were more expensive, the variation they give, in size and tread pattern, was worth it.

That is a lot of farm toys!
 :o

Will the next project be a junkyard using the rest of the models?

I didn't have to buy a load of farm vehicles to nick the tyres from, they came in a set of 50 tyres for a farmyard silo cover:

The first one was a damaged packet with 1 tyre missing, that I got for a bargain 99p plus postage.  :)
