Scaling Issues for Bolt Action at 15mm?
« on: February 02, 2015, 01:57:58 AM »
I'm painting a large platoon for use with a friend's Bolt Action's rules, but at 15mm scale. I only have the list of what to build, but not the rules. I have no issues with retaining measurement distances with smaller figures, I'm just wondering if there are any unforeseen issues that I might not know about, like Template weapons. Even while keeping troops at their maximum spread distance from one another, in 15mm scale you still have more under a template weapon due to the bases being somewhat smaller.

So, are there template/blast Radius weapons in BA, and what other considerations for 15mm miniatures on 1/2 inch bases should I be aware of?

We play Bolt Action in both 28mm and 15mm and the movement and ranges actually feel a bit better in 15mm.  Both scales work fine.

No template weapons to worry about, blast weapons typically do Dx amount of damage to units.

Artillery blasts hit units within D6+6" of the aiming point, air strikes hit the target unit and every other unit within 12" of the target unit.  Neither of which should be an issue with 15mm basing.

I really don't see any game issues that 15mm on 1/2" basing should encounter.
So many games, so little time.

Great, thanks so much. We have, in the past, played 1/72 scale in another game system, and the one thing we did notice was we tended to group the models closer together relative to their size. Like 3/4 of an inch rather than 1 for bigger models. Without blast templates though, this should be a much smaller issue in BA.

We've also been playing in both 15 & 28mm scales with no problems. In 15mm we have been using our FOW stuff and having a great time, even with multi-figure bases.
Jane! Stop this crazy thing!
