Looks like it was my idea so here goes. My brother and I are offering to run this game, we will probably need one more GM. Below are our first ideas. Any comments are more than welcome.
The idea of the game is to have a large pirate game with a large number of players.
I believe that the game would require three GM’s, one for each table
Three 6’ x 4 tables will be used for the playing area.

Two of the tables will have two ports/islands placed at either end. The port /island will take up approximately 2’ x 2’ area, leaving the rest of the table as open water.
The third, middle, table will be open water with monsters, ghost ships and other nasty encounters
Red highlight is something we already have. Yellow Highlight is things we are intending to build
Players – Number of players has still to be decided. More pirate ships can be added and the ghost ship can become GM controlled
1.   British Navy
2.   Spanish Navy
3.   British Privateer
4.   Spanish Privateer
5.   Pirate
6.   Smuggler
7.   Ghost Ship
8.   British Merchantman
9.   Spanish Merchantman
Ports/islands
1.   British Port
2.   Spanish Port
3.   Pirate Port[/font]
4.   Native island
Objectives - Players
1.   British navy - Protect Merchantman, catch pirates and smugglers
2.   Spanish Navy – Protect Merchantman, catch pirates and smugglers
3.   British Privateer – Attack the Spanish
4.   Spanish Privateer – Attack the British
5.   Pirate – Be a pirate and attack everyone
6.   Smuggler – Transport goods and sell them
7.   Ghost ship – Populate Davy Jones locker
8.   British Merchantman - Transport goods and sell them
9.   Spanish Merchantman – Transport goods and sell them

Objectives – Ports. All ports can repair and resupply ships
1.   British Port – Buy and sell goods, Defend against attacks
2.   Spanish Port – Buy and sell goods, Defend against attacks
3.   Pirate Port – Buy and sell Goods from pirates and smugglers
4.   Native Island – Buy and sell goods. Slaves, find treasure

Rules
The table will be split into 2’ squares ships can only fight other ships in the same square. Wind direction will be determined in each square, ships can only travel to the next square with the wind. Ships travel a square a turn.
Ship fights will be similar to the rules from Fistful of Seamen Blog
We will need a simple set of rules to resolve other types of fights. Trying to resolve massed combats with single dice rolls affected by Captain stats
Gold Doubloon values will be given to every ship and cargo. The player with the most at the end of play, is the winner

All sounding good Colin.

If nobody else will take up the mantle,  I'd love to build the ghost ship. I have some ideas!

The first sketch is mine (what I'd like to try! ) the others are inspiration downloaded from the inter-web

I might be able to produce the Spanish navy as I already have the figures, just need to get them painted. lol

I have pirates and one sloop already painted and a Man o war ready to build.

I could supply San Antonio as the Spanish port.

I also have five 4ft x 2ft sea boards.

I've got four ships around 150 pirates and 20 or so redcoats if it helps  :)

I'd love to build an island / atoll, but I appear to have used most of my styrofoam syupply on building a cave system  ::)
But if time permits...

I'm already looking forward to seeing your ship spring fully formed from your brilliant modeller's brain Andy.

gamer Mac,

You might want to see if you can contact Greg, e.g. Early Morning Writer (on TMP), or on the MWS, or SHWG Yahoo Groups.

We ran almost this identical, large, participation gaming using 15mm figures and vessels, and "islands" and movement rules very similar to what you are proposing.

He/we came up with a pretty easy to use, set of quick-play rules, for land and sea battles, encounters, and other special events.  As you propose, we also had multiple GMs for each section of the board, and we ran a couple of playtests prior to the convention, in order to try to work out any of the kinks before that.

We used one very long table (30+ feet, I suspect, or more, and about 6' - 8' wide, IIRC), with islands in the corners, and along the sides of the long sides as well.  There were also several islands in the center, which were populated by natives in several cases, and pirates too.

Lots of good encounters and roleplaying opportunities to be enjoyed as well.

Definitely worth inquiring about, since the factions used were almost identical to those you propose, but as mentioned, also with islands natives too.

Every faction had different missions to accomplish, to make things interesting.

Good luck on your project, and post lots of pics.
