Revell Snaptite M-48 Patton.
« on: February 07, 2015, 12:11:49 PM »
Picked up one of the new 1/48 'snaptite' Pattons a couple of weeks ago. As the name suggests, it's a snap together toy that comes in about a dozen or so pieces and in a garish, red, black and silver paint scheme.

Detail is pretty good for a toy and it accurately scales out at 1/48. I prefer my vehicles a little smaller but for $ 20 AUD it was hard to pass up.

It's not entirely faithful as a model. The rear engine vents are straight rather, than angled, the tracks slightly too wide, missing teeth and have a the wrong tread pattern. On mine there was a gap between the hull rear plate and the engine deck that needed filling but that may have been sloppy construction on my part.

Anyway I decided to do a little detailing. A turret basket, aerial and hand holds were added with brass wire. Coincidence range finders added from a plastic bead cut in half and stowage added. Tinfoil was added to better capture the look of the turret mantlet.

Have now started painting it.  More pics to follow.

A nice start. You bought the set online or in store?

Brunels in Cheltenham. John ordered one in for me. Vic Hobbies/Metro Hobbies have the Sherman and Pzkpfw IV from the same line.

Slapped some paint on. Now needs detailing and weathering. Drilled out the lift ring on the turret and the end of the muzzle. Conveniently the muzzle brake is moulded open.

Cheers! Will wait for better light before posting more pics.

Recipe in play so far. Vallejo US dark Green applied over the primed surface as a base coat. Heavy dry brush of Model master Faded US Olive Drab. Light dry brush with Vallejo Stone Grey. Pin washes of Vallejo Flat Brown. Canvas mantlet cover Vallejo French Tanker Green.

Been experimenting with some green filters on parts of the tank. Will try and get it weathered over the weekend.

US service? Probably, I bought it more as a generic M-48 to get multiple use from it. Actually I don't have much specific need of an M-48 at the moment, it was just a case of wanting a mini project. Might end up selling it when complete.

Looks great!

Certainly much better than that gaudy toy scheme some marketing person came up with.

Thanks for sharing your pics.

Would make a nice Bundeswehr model too.
