More 54mm Perry Gallipoli figures for official NZ project
« on: February 10, 2015, 07:05:44 AM »
Some amazing new bespoke 54mm Perry figures for New Zealand's official WW100 'Great War Exhibition' diorama, for which over a hundred Kiwi volunteers are helping to paint 4000 figures:

http://anzacdiorama.blogspot.co.nz/2015/02/some-amazing-figures-to-come-from-perrys.html

There's an amazing atmosphere here in New Zealand as so many Kiwi wargamers get together in painting groups, or work away by themselves, to all contribute to this huge communal project.

Sample pics from the above blog:

Here's a message from Peter Jackson to the army of volunteer painters on this project:

I gather that's a decision still to be made, Dozing Dragon.  It's certainly been suggested by a few people.  But at this stage, I suspect everyone's efforts are concentrated on getting this massive 10-metre long diorama done and dusted by Anzac Day (April).

dont know why people In CHCH only get to paint 5 odd figures at a time, seems like alot more work than it needs to be. main reason I didnt help out.

Lovely figures tho

The figures are being distributed as they come in - the Perrys are still sculpting as we speak!

Those in more isolated areas got larger shipments in one go, as they wouldn't get re-supplys due to the difficulty in transport.  But those in larger centres are being fed piecemeal as the figures come in.  The number of figures per person will vary according to the number of painters in that place.

When I first heard about this project, I was determined to take part, no matter what difficulties there might be.  I saw this as the pinnacle of my wargaming hobby over the decades, as these figures will outlive us all. My grandkid's children will look at this diorama and know that their ancestor had a part in making it, long after my other wargaming figures have gone wherever old gaming figures go to die.

... and new figures just keep on rolling out for this project:

Four thousand 54mm figures spread across a ten-metre long diorama.  This is going to be quite something!

I take it these become Mr J's once the project is over?

No, the aim is they'll be a permanent
memorial. this is going to endure much longer than my wargames armies are likely to!

They're productive enough.... they need a project like Gallipoli every day just to slow down enough for me to collect the mini's i want without wanting to buy  more and more! Hope that makes some sense!!??  :D
