Wargods of Olympus Amazon Army Project
« on: February 10, 2015, 04:46:15 PM »
I have been working steadily on projects for painting competitions in February and April of 2015. I decided that I need something to break up the intense concentration that requires and decided that it was time to start on my Amazon army for Wargods of Olympus. My Basti army for Wargods of Aegyptus is basically complete so I felt I could justify starting the new army. Progress is likely to be slow in the beginning since my competition pieces get priority but it feels good to get them started.

I picked the archer unit to start with. There are three different poses plus a leader and begin Amazons they are much less generic than the archers for the other Greek factions which will get to use the same archers but with different leaders. The sculptor is great as are the castings. No flash and very light mold lines. Unfortunately because of the poses the mold lines run right across the faces on all three sculpts. Two on the right side of the face and through the eye and one goes right down the middle of the face. I went light with the file work and then used a combination of blue stick sanding stick and steel wool to buff out any resulting file marks.

At this point I'm up through the beginnings of my skin tones.

Well packaged!

First look as I'm starting to prep the minis for priming

Primed and ready for paint

The beginning of the skin. I don't feel the need to apply paint neatly at this point, one of the reasons I work the skin first. The base coat and one highlight were applied before I did this shadow wash of burnt sienna

Some lovely figures, I'm looking forward to seeing them painted.
Are these only available as a kickstarter?
Cheers

They will be available for retail sale from Crocodile Games after they have finished fulfilling their Kickstarter. I'm not sure how long that might be.They still have the Athenians, Corinthians, wave 2 Trojans and wave 2 Amazons to go yet. It might be a while.

These are beautiful sculpts and the casting looks great. They must be a real pleasure to paint and I'm looking forward to seeing yours done. BTW, what size (i.e. height in mm) are these?

They measure 30mm to the eye, 33mm to the top of the head (approximately).

Thanks for the info on their size. These are really pretty miniatures, sadly the wrong size for me, I've recently moved to 35-38mm (1/48) minis.

Impressive start, I'm also looking forward to further progress reports.  8-)

There was a little progress on these last night but not enough to really warrant pictures. I can tell you that they are all staring at me now.

Nice start.  I missed the KS, but cannot wait to buy some when they are retailed.

Doomslave, I think you can still order them via paypal as Croc has not finished fulfillment of that wave.  Once they have then it is wait until retail time.

I was stressing over my competition entries which means it was a good time to break out the Amazons. They are getting a bit more than my usual tabletop paint work since they are being worked on while I'm getting ready for ReaperCon in April. I'm mostly through the skin tons and hair and starting to block out the cloth.
