Songs along the Mohawk
« on: February 22, 2015, 11:11:04 PM »
Drums Along the Mohawk is one of my kids favorite films. Wrong war, I know, but we tried to recreate the farm raid scene today.  Used a 2'x6' board this time.

I wanted to try out the modified reloading rules, but never had a chance.  Maybe next time.

Final score:
6 year old's warband:  2 scalps
12 year old's warband: 1 scalp
Mom's settlers:  3/4 of the settlers made it to the fort.

The scenario needs some modification...

Love the write up of the "battle."
One of my favorite movies.
Well done.

I just watched that movie last week when we had a snow day! Maybe the settler who wouldn't quit was the tough as nails old granny...ha, ha!

Anyway, you are right the Q4 Leaders are not the best bet. In almost all convention games, I use:
Leaders, Q3 C3
Rank & File, Q4 C2

That way, the followers are never easier to activate than their leader...they are the same, at best.

Clever idea for a scenario. I agree that letting the Indians come in on the short sides would make it more gripping. But hey! Any special kind of scenario like this needs playtesting. Nothing wrong with that...I am always tweaking and revising my scenarios.

Can I link your blog AAR on our Battle Reports page?

And I have to say, I absolutely love that you are sowing the next crop/generation of gamers with our rules! Every time one of your kids enjoys a game, it makes every minute I spent developing, writing, and playtesting these rules worth gold!!!

Mike, feel free to link any time.  I'm just embarrassed at the quality compared to many other blogs out there!

I've used SoBH rules to start many non-gamers into the world.  They seem to like the risk-vs-gain of activation.  Last summer the 6-year old even developed a "Littlest Pet Shop" warband that was quite deadly.
