Hello
that's another foray on my part in this section of the forum...i use to post mainly on the Colonial section..i'm certainly not an expert on 18/early 19 c. European history..but i discovered in my firts posts that, here, they are some helpful expert gamers/collectors also in my "second love" which is French Revolution/Vendée ...so thanks in advance for your kind help
Well..recently i was lucky to purchase on ebay a big lot of 28mm French Infantry with pre 1812 uniform..Line and Voltigeurs from Mirliton..manufacture of which i particularly like the design/size and, most important, of which majority of my French Revolutionary castings come from.
I don't play Imperial Period Napoleonic but i love to paint minis for skirmish type (Vendée) scenarios or for an Early Napoleonic/Revolutionary period…so i would ask, please, if those French Infantry (from Mirliton)could be, with a simple head swapping (i have quite few spare bicornes, Tarleton helmets and Hussars headgears in Mirliton)pass for Early type French?..i know the main issue could be the short tails…maybe not noticeable at this scale for Line Infantry…but, in the case of Voltigeurs..that i would really like to trasform in Corps Francs or better Chasseurs wearing Mirliton Hussar type hat (like the Cisalpine ones and some French in Italy) and with short (white ) gaiters..the tails seem really too much short..on the other hand i read somewhere, but i did'nt find great pictorial evidence in support , that they were progressivly equipped with very short tailed tunics…is it true? and from which year?..…and the rest of uniforms ..could it pass for what i'm looking after?
thanks in advance
