Here are some new pictures of the nearly finished terrain . Next will be the castle itself.
Here without grass :

And these are with grass added . The grass will let the tiles blend in with the older ones ( they are from total system scenic)

Fantastic. :) If I was looking at some of those photos on a wee phone screen, maybe squinting a bit, I'd be hard-pressed to tell they were modelled without the divide between the tiles.

Looking great so far, can't wait to see it with the castle in situ ;D

Lovely baseboards Tom. Very well done.

Interestingly I picked up a copy of the current issue of Wargames Illustrated at Victoria station today, and it has a quarter page advert for Tabletop Workshop in there, complete with website address. The website that's still defunct... Curiouser and curiouser...

I saw that, too . It is really getting curious. Maybe someone from the mag can shed some light on this issue?!

These are wonderful with plenty for space for miniatures to stand & fight.

I started on the castle proper. I used an airbrush to get 10 different layers of grey on it. This gives a good representation of stone masonry .
Now I am thinking about how to get on from this point as it still looks to new to me.
Maybe a wash with umber or sepia or even black!?
What would you do?

Awaiting Captain Blood's advice. :D

I think a little raw umber would help a lot. Most bare stone castles have at least a tinge of brown.

Looks great...A Wash of black/brown would definitely give it some lift.

when I built my castle I started with a black base and drybrushed on the greys...

This seemed to give it the depth I was looking for

If you can crack the castle like you have done your base this ids going to look fabulous

Brown around the base of the walls where the ground meets the wall. Pick out various stone blocks in slightly different shades of grey/brown etc. Lighter drybrushing along the crenellations and on some blocks.

Add some green washes where water is likely to run or gather ie down the walls, along the window sills, along the base of the walls.

Some brown streaks down the walls from windows/latrines...

Basically you want to dirty it up and break up the uniform colour.
