Those all look excellent! The baby beholders are so cute! I don’t remember from the lore are what stage they develop their death gaze… might be from, birth, hatching, mitosis?

They "gazers" and are apparently created from beholder dreams. I had never heard of them and looked it up when I bought the spectator, because it came with two gazers as well.

Nice painting.  I love the mimic's.  The undead gnolls are rather unique. Who makes them?

Those are also cheap soft plastic (PVC?) D&D minis.

Lovely miniature painting here, as always, but even better work on your real-life dogs! You're a good man for taking on those shelter dogs. My two at the moment are both shelter dogs too, and the truth is that there are so many of them in shelters that need a good home. Hats off to you, Zero! Your dogs are beautiful!

Arise my long slumbering thread!  :o

Hey. It's been a minute. I say this a lot, but life got busy. But it really did. Right around the time of my last update I changed jobs, plus a few other big life events since then. Also one of the Windows 11 updates broke my ability to use the ancient version of Photoshop I've had for ever and I've been lax (and/or cheap) about replacing it, that hindered my ability & enthusiasm for editing photos. I just downloaded GIMP last night. Lastly, I've been spending more of my sparse "spare time" outdoors, hiking and a little bit of kayaking, before the weather turns cold & snowy.

I've still been painting a little bit, but not so much with the updating of my personal blog or my threads here. The only gaming I've done has been a solo Five Parsecs campaign. I'll update that soon on the sci-fi board.

But for now, going from most recent to past, a bit of fantasy painting & terrain....

A couple weeks ago I got inspired to make some new terrain because of some discounted little plastic pumpkins I found. So it started with a pumpkin patch, then a pumpkin ring (like a fairy ring with jack-o-lanterns, some dead trees... then I needed someone to inhabit or emerged from the pumpkin ring... now I'm painting some more "spooky" themed figures and will hopefully have *gasp* another update soon!

It looks like there's a handful of other figures that haven't made it here between April & now....

Zombies from Satyr Art Studio.

And a couple more from Ral Partha.

Last Christmas we got our daughter the D&D Players Handbook because they were going to start playing with a group at school. We made tentative plans to do campaign with family & friends, so her, my wife, and our niece & nephew rolled up characters. I opted for a middle aged gnome druid. I bought a second casting of a figure I had painted years ago and with some minor modifications had a figure for my character (middle) who I painted sort of like a greying version of the original.

I needed some stirges for the adventure I was going to run for the group. Cheap plastic fly toys!

Also one of these, along with some of the other figures I painted earlier this year. They're all for one of the premade entry level adventures. Some of the other figures (goblins, etc.) I already had.

We still haven't played. But maybe this winter...

Infected insect swarm to go with my Shroomfolk. Based on cheap plastic toy ants.

Some other random stuff...

And a paint brush holder I randomly bought from Amazon.  lol

Nice job on all of those. I might need to steal your stirge idea.

Thanks! All of those (bunny, flys/stirges/ants) were amazingly cheap yet satisfying little side projects!  lol

I got a little busy and didn't follow up with more (sci-fi!) updates as planned. But I did paint a bit. And travel.

I wasn't done with Spooky Season as of the last update and painted a few more random figures...

The mini-pumpkin head is an old Citadel familiar, and the two gargoyles are from their Arcane Architecture range. The vulture is from Reaper, mounted on a plastic gravestone from the 2nd GW plastic skeleton set. I think the tiny black cat is from Reaper too. The skeletal dog is from Mantic's plastic skeletons box . The flamingo is from Armorcast/Ginfritter. I'm not really sure where the imp came from or how it got in my collection.  ???

The spooky doesn't stop with Halloween. On to No-Flesh November  ;)

These "sKELTitons" are GC plastics with metal Gallic shields from Foundry and Black Tree. I plan on using them for some themed skirmishes that I've hinted at before and will elaborate on more in the future.

I'm going to participate in the Old World Army Challenge again starting in January, after taking a break from it in 2024. But I've planned a sci-fi (Rogue Trader Eldar pt. 2) project. However, I still have plans for more fantasy painting (and gaming!?) as time allows. I have too many ideas and not enough time! Not uncommon, maybe we should call that "The Wargamers Dilemma."  lol

Lastly I traveled for work and took some personal time for side quests. There's some gaming inspiration in there, but since it's mostly off topic I will leave the rest of the pics & commentary on my blog. Short version is that I visited old lava flows, petroglyphs, mountains, deserts, and massive caverns. And a bit of roadside Americana.

These "sKELTitons"
Nice one, haven't read that one before ;D

Some lovely little creatures (and pumpkins)! The skeletons are looking well made too! I wondered a bit that you used slightly different colour schemes for them, is there some specific effect you aimed for (except for them not all looking alike)?

Thanks for the off-topic bit, that looked quite interesting. The challenge was also something new for me, a good think it's not about LotR otherwise I would feel the urge to participate  :D

I'm sure there's a LotR challenge around if you look hard enough!  ;)

Prepped some figures for Deadcember 2024. There may be a bit of a theme...

The halloween themed black rabbits are plastic right? I think I had one or maybe a toy one of my daughters had.
Someting out of a chocolate egg perhaps?

Nice work all over! I especially like that vulture. There's something that I always like about little miniatures or scenery that probably aren't necessary to any sort of tactical element to the game (though they could be used as objective points or some sort of marker), but just give a sense of atmosphere. Great stuff!
I have a YouTube and so can you!
