Beyond the Gates of Antares: Algoryn Task Force

After a bit of a paint marathon yesterday - managed to get my Algoryn task force completed - Haven't had a game of BGoA but I do play and enjoy Bolt Action so am hoping its just as enjoyable.

They look pretty sharp. How was the casting?

I know nothing about the Antares or Boltaction rules, these  figs and the other two factions I've seen all seem very correct, but I'm finding it hard to get excited about them for some reason.

Out of the entire force, I encountered a bit of flash on the inner thigh of front left model in the pic. So from my experiences the casting is pretty good. The rules are like a slightly more detailed version of Bolt Action, with stat lines, reactions and D10s being used instead of D6s. I have yet to play the game but by what I have read of the beta - it looks pretty solid.

Great painting work. As you have said, hubbabubba, these figures have something wrong in them. I have some of them but I have been unable to catch this as a project. And the ruleset is not helping me!

But, again, great painting work.

Very Nice work!   I was a bit turned off by the GW-pricing structure they're using for the game's minis, but the figures do look nice and just different enough from what else is available there to stand out.

Well, it IS a former GW-employee that runs things, after all  lol

I hope to see some Antares game-reports, as the use of d10 instead of the omnipresent d6 just caught my attention.

Expensive models and rules that feel a lot like a GW game... I know why both of these things are the way they are, but I've not been tempted by Antares yet.

However, I'm curious to see how the game develops, and I think that your Algoryn (sounds like Al Gore...?) look very good. :)

Now before i start, this isn't a sales pitch for the game lol, and I am not and not planning in becoming a rep for this game - just my observations...

When it comes to the pricing structure - it is per figure the same as GW but unlike 40k, the units come in 5s and you only need 4-5 units for a good game - which is about £80 in a army deal I believe - take in the factor the rules are free - that is a lot cheaper than 40k start up cost.

Thanks everyone for the kind encouragement - really means a lot - as soon as I get my first game in - will share a AAR :)
