I tried out one of my proposed BLAM scenarios today with the help of my friend Anthony who came over to play the British and Spanish.
The British Navy had two boat parties carrying out a night landing on the coast of Spain in order to deliver supplies to a local guerrilla band and with orders to destroy a nearby semaphore tower while they were there.

The French garrisons slept soundly with only a couple of dozing sentries to keep watch.
How far would the British get before someone made a noise or their movements were spotted and the alarm raised?

This was the set up (sort of, I didn't bother with the raised ground).

The British delivered their supplies to the Spanish thus freeing the guerrillas to join in the attack with them and wiped out the main French garrisson with only minimal losses to themselves. After a couple of hours of slaughter the French commander had had enough and surrendered allowing the British and Spanish to burn the semaphore to the ground.

We had a lot of fun testing new mechanics. Round shot bounced through cavalry, grenades exploded in the midst of French guards as they formed up to fire a volley and British sailors were cut down by charging cavalry in droves (well, threes actually). Men died by the sword, axe, boarding pike and bayonet as well as the more usual muskets, pistols and blunderbusses.

Marvellous stuff, sounds like a great game. Exactly what I'd like to do. Any more photos?

I took a couple but they're not very interesting, mainly showing the aftermath of fights consisting of a survivor (usually wounded) and no opponents left.

Captain Hornblower, out of ammunition and wounded in a vicious melee in which he killed three French cavalry men, is confronted by a French officer. Seconds later he was to fall to the officer's pistol shot.



The wounded French commander is persuaded to surrender with only a few remnants of his command left alive. His decision is made easier by the gaping muzzle of an HMS Hotspur gun.

I can't believe Hornblower's down!    

I expect when they get him back to the Hotspur, Dr. Clive will be able to extract the pistol ball.
