WW1 Germans
« on: November 03, 2008, 05:49:26 PM »
Hi,
I've finished the first of my Great War Miniatures Germans. I would like to show him off, but as I'm new to this I don't know the best way of putting a picture on this site, so could somebody help me please?
Cheers.  ;)

The easiest way is to load the picture onto a picture hosting site (I use Photobucket which seems very reliable and its free) and then you just have to paste the img link from the site into your post.

Hurry up though because we like to see piccies a lot

Thanks Svenn,
Here you go. I hope it comes out okay, and look forward to comments. I look forward to completing more figures soon (I've been held up by the sudden demise of my lightbulb), so expect more to follow.

Excellent painting and the close up camera work.

You have captured the very essence of the period, well done.

Keep up the grand work.

Best wishes,

What have you used for the base?

I agree. I like the weathering on the helmet. And the moustache is so early 20th century...

Thanks.
I'm in Gargrave, North Yorks. The base is just PVA'd then dipped in a mixture of sand of varying grades, finaly drybrushed in various shades of brown.
Owing to the sudden demise of my daylight bulb the photo has a slight yellow tinge, a nuisance but will be rectified by the time I finish the next batch.
As a newbie to this period (I always said I wouldn't get involved with the Great War, Ha!) I would be very appreciative of any reccomendations towards rules.
Cheers.  :)

Thanks for the base details.
As for rules try Warhammer Historical Great War:

Fantastic painting, works really well even at such a large magnification!

A coment or two about the photo though:

Firstly Id use a background that is not pure white, you have a lot of glare here. Grey or beige I find gives better results.

Secondly, post production is your friend! Use Gimp, its a very good photo manipulation program, and its free. I used to use photo shop for many years but then I found the gimp. It does everything photoshop does, but as 15 meg instead of 750 its less grinding on your machine! Plus as it is open source its great for the development community and helpfull enthusiats. Anyway, you can easily tone down the yellow in gimp!

Thanks all,
Ramshackle - Although I've been painting figures for years, I'm still getting my head around photography. It seems harder than painting, so any pointers are more than appreciated.

Aircav - Thanks for the info, I'm not sure about Warhammer Historical Great War as I don't particularly like the warhammer rules system, to fantasy/science fiction for me.

Doomhippie - Glad you like the figure, however any praise over the moustache has to go to the figure designer. Great War Miniatures are so cool and paintable.

Anyway, here, as promised, are some more. Again sorry about the lighting....
