The Village of Himeshima
« on: March 01, 2015, 01:28:22 PM »
At Salute 2015 Charles, several friends and myself shall be putting on three participation game boards as part of the launch for Daisho.  So now the rules are done we have begun the interesting task of building all the terrain and painting the figures we shall need.
It was suggested to me that we should just buy a load of buildings from 4Ground, Sarissa or Oshiro but where is the fun in that? ;)
I'm documenting my progress and showing how I go about making these buildings on the Daisho blog.
The first article concentrates on the manufacture of suitable village fencing behind which my rebellious Ikko-Ikki can shelter from the Samurai arrow storm. You can read it here: https://daishogame.wordpress.com/2015/02/21/so-it-begins/

The second instalment goes into the building of the first two peasant houses: https://daishogame.wordpress.com/2015/02/22/the-village-buildings-i/

The third describes a change in building materials and techniques: https://daishogame.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/the-village-buildings-ii/

There shall be regular updates to this series as Himeshima grows and I move onto the small neighbouring Sohei monastery.

Cheers,
Craig

Interesting project and the start looks great, I guess I will have to check the blog side of things even though I normally rarely do so.

The next instalment of the Village project is now on the blog: https://daishogame.wordpress.com/2015/03/07/the-village-buildings-iii/
This time I tackle the village elder's house, which is bigger and fancier than those of his neighbours. Here's a sneak peek:

We hope to launch the rules at Salute 2015 (late April). The manuscript will go off to our layout chap this weekend, then onto the printers.

Thanks for the answer.

One more question. Will there be a figure range with it? Or will it be source your own kind of thing.

Just curious, but what is the planned "standard" board size for Daisho?

The game is not tied to any particular figure range or manufacturer. In our collections we have figures from North Star, Kensei, Dixons, Foundry, old Citadel and a unique sculpt by our friend Duncan Louca. We prefer that you have the freedom to choose and use figures that you like in a scale you prefer.

For a game with two players, we recommend a playing area three feet or one metre square.

Today we tackle thatching using commonly available materials so we can achieve this:
