I have a set of the original Masq Mini resin plates, before they did their current version. They're not too bad, but take a bit of care, finessing, and otherwise getting used to their foibles. Part of that is getting the ribs to line up, though pushing the horizontal plates up against a vertical surface (like the side of a box or block of wood etc. etc.) helps. And I'd still like an even finer set of ribs, too!
Maybe it'd be better if they were transparent, I dunno. Seems to me it'd be like trying to look through a bathroom window, with all those ridges, and you'd end up guessing and peering at the edges anyway.
Let the epoxy putty firm up a little too. Makes it easier to roll the initial cylinder or tube into an even, round shape, then lets you manipulate the thin tube without squashing it too much or leaving fingerprints, and press the plate ridges into the putty without cutting right through it too easily.
Also handy for using up little scraps of leftover putty from other parts or projects, if you've got a few minutes afterwards. Build up a wee stock of potentially useful bits.
