Crimean Brits in Campaign Dress Mixed with Trench Coats?
« on: March 21, 2015, 08:49:47 AM »
Hi all,

I was also thinking of mixing up some of the Brits in their Trench coats with the Brits on their normal clobber- would this be seen in the Crimea? Inkerman perhaps but what about prior to that battle?

Also, If I went for 40 man units for the Russians, what ratio of Grenadiers would they have had?

Darre

Anthony Dawson (a FB friend of mine) is pretty much expert on the Brits in the Crimea and what each regt wore in each battle. Do you know him?

No, not at all in fact. would you mind asking him on my behalf please?  :)

In fact, is there still a Crimean War Yahoo Group?

Darrell.

Hi Darrell..

I think that at the start of the campaign he British may have stuck to regulation orders of dress for the whole unit... All greatcoats all light kit etc, but as siege warfare set in I imagine anything that was comfortable was worn.

Russian battalions each had four companies ...

Infantry battalions had one grenadier company and three musketeer
Jäger battalions had one carabineer company and three jäger

There were four battalions to a regiment

All the best. Aly
