Wars of the Roses on the biggest table I've ever seen
« on: March 17, 2015, 08:28:33 PM »
Last weekend I was invited up to Scotland to take part in a big Wars of the Roses game. When I saw the size of the table my jaw hit the floor.

Short report here: http://olicanalad.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/an-away-game.html

For this shot I'm stood on the Scottish border looking south across what is essentially a huge 'Kingmaker' board; the chap furthest south is stood in the English channel with France at his back. This wasn't a 'Wars of the Roses game', it was the whole war on 'one table' in one game!

What a fantastic theme for a day of gaming... Kingmaker with miniatures! "Bourchier to Plessey"!  :D

This might be the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Ever.

:)

I wouldn't go that far even if this definitely is a brilliant game setup.

I'm not sure about the most brilliant, but having the whole of England on one table when playing with 28mm figures is something of a mind bender. It was an amazing game, a cross between table game and wargame campaign, fought over an entire weekend. The game took about fourteen hours to play out (rough reckoning). I'm not sure I'll ever get to play this kind of game again but, if I do, it would need more than wild horses to keep me away from a chance to.

Having said that, the company kept at this game was superb, they are not called 'The League of Gentlemen Wargamers' for nothing. Before the game I only knew Steve R. (a friend and client) who organised the game, and I'd met Charles Grant (through another client) once, but each and everyone of the League made me feel very welcome - for which I am very grateful. If they invite me again, I'll be there!

What a cool idea. Having the resources helps, of course! Miniature wargaming at its highest level....

It was a great game - my thanks to Steve for all the effort he put into planning this.
