The Dalai Does Waterloo
« on: April 20, 2015, 09:28:54 PM »
A small group of us in Inverness have embarked on a project to build up armies of the Waterloo 1815 Campaign.  I pitched in to start the Allied troops and as I'm a slow painter I picked the Brunswick Corps to start with from the Allied OOB while my main purchase from Perry Miniatures, Dutch 2nd & 3rd Divisions, are off on manoeuvres with a professional painter.

I took things slowly to test out what technique and style would best suit this shift to Napoleonics and subtle differences can be seen from the start of the trial run.  The Uhlans were first and the ‘white varnish’ scare shows a bit even though the recovery worked wonders.  Next came the first gun of the foot battery followed by the Leib Battalion both showing how the varnish situation has been mastered.

I'll gradually get the Corps finished and hopefully by the time the Dutch arrive which will see the first test skirmishes with our chosen set of rules – Shako II – at the end of the summer.  However other pressing matters may see The Dalai diverting back to Back of Beyond for a spell.

A lot more images can be viewed from my photobucket pages, just click on one image to get there.

The photos were taken with my Samsung Note 3 and are not too bad, but I'll use my Canon Digital SLR next time.

You're too kind.  I expect my style to evolve as I get through the figures.  I've already changed the static grass choice, the original is on the Uhlan bases with the rest having the new choice.

Nice neat style Dalai, is that a transfer on their backpacks or some nifty freehand painting?

The backpacks have a nifty little home-made water-slide transfer.  You can cram quite a lot onto an A4 sheet!

Oh, very nice! :) I like the painting style, very clean and dramatic.

I need to get back to work on my British for Waterloo.

Your army is coming along nicely. That is a great paint job. This is an exciting time, what with the 200 year anniversary of Waterloo coming up. I am air brushing matt varnish over my Brunswickers now and hoping to get them based within the next week.

You should get +1 on the dice for fielding Perry figures. They are well fed compared to a lot of other ranges. The old Bicorne and Connoisseur figures couldn't stand against them.
