Just lost my filter virginity. Damned easy to use to be honest, I will pick up some more filters and go to town with them, I'm liking these!

After filter on the left, before filter on the right.

I'll let everything dry for 24 hours, then matte coat them, and then a very fine rust ring around the neck and parts of the welding I think....but weathering powders is another experiment for me :)

Sweet !

2 questions : where are those gas bottles from and what brand of filter?

Great painting though!

Lesson learned ; do NOT use a thinner based matte varnish over a filter (that has not dried properly). Everything has been salvaged, it now is just a slight satin varnish, so I will recoat again tonight.

ZIZ, these are from Zinge Industries, large bottles, 5 for 5 Pounds. http://zinge.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=110_128&product_id=360 At 27mm, they are really, really big! I could use some welding gas bottles for 28mm though, surprised I never found any other then 1:35 scale.

Ah yes, the learning moment with filters: apply them after varnishing. Otherwise all your good work is almost for nothing and all the subtleness is lost. But the gas bottles look excellent! Most fitting for PA games too.

Mal; I thought that applied to weathering powders? The coat of varnish didn't alter the tanks much.

Mod; I'll try and remember to bring them over on friday.

That IS big.

1/48 welding gas bottles exist, but they'll cost you as they're part of a resin conversion kit by Gaso.line :

Then again, there are some nice extras in that kit like, a workbench, lathe, vise, drill press, electrical motor and a et of photo-etched tools and toolboxes.

Dear lord, I followed that link thinking a Fallout 3 type of workbench would be nice, but it's not 36 euro nice! When the bottles are finished I'll drop pics off at Zinge and ask them if they'd be interested in doing 28mm scaled gas bottles of that type. Who knows, they might listen :)

Told you, they'd cost you.
But, as said, you do get a lot in that kit, and even the cabine can be used as a PA makeshift shack IMO.

I've always been interested in Modeltech Studios Power Tools set (among others): http://modeltechstudios.com/hoscaleshoppowertoolpack1variety-1.aspx
Even tried to place an order once, but when he refused to give me an estimate on postage (in a rather rude way) I steered away from his site.
(Cost for postage outside US was added after paying. I would have gone along with that if he gave me an estimate, but apparently $70 wasn't enough for him to get of his lazy ass)

They've turned out great, even with the mistake. But we all learn from those, it's part of the fun  :)

cheers

Well, after a disastrous attempt at using weathering powders I've sentenced myself to watching tutorial videos for a few nights cause I managed to bollox up so completely it had my mentor doing a ROLFLOL behind his PC. So no weathering powder for the canister, and I'm going to dig up an old wreck for experimenting.

So, I did the right thing tonight and matte coated the canisters with my old Vallejo Matte Varnish.....which did nothing  :? (which made me remember why I stopped using the stuff in the first place) So I just reapplied Daler-Rowney matte varnish over that coat and now they are matt as can be. Finished pics tomorrow maybe.

And the next bit is already here!

Picked up these 2nd hand OOP Forgeworld Sewer entrances a few months back. Some paint, washes, pencil and a few tufts and ready for Necromunda and Inquisitor/munda and if there are enough rats around, Mordheim too. Necro model not by me, bought that 2nd hand, not gotten round to stripping it yet.
