Triffids
« on: October 02, 2008, 09:48:03 AM »
I've just been re-reading 'Day of the Triffids'. What a great, scary book.

HLBS do this triffid mini:

Does anyone know how tall it stands? (The book says that triffids typically stand 2.5m high.) And just out of interest, does anyone else have any favourite man-eating plant minis?

Yeah, it's a great read - I like all of Wyndham's books, even if they do all follow a similar theme.

Those are nice models, but I have no idea of their size.

Not exactly triffid-like, but funky all the same!  ;)

I love the tv series for day of the triffidds, but it is a bit stupid that they pose much of a threat to the sighted people. Surely goggles and good old DrMolotov's fiery cocktails is all youd need to surpress them? I havent read the book, which Im sure leaves more to the imagination, so is inherently scarier!

I was going to mention the ramshackle ones, but the man beat me to it! :D

I've also got a soft spot for the QRF ones as well:

I loved the old BBC series of Day of the Triffids. SciFi Channel showed it again not so long ago, and it still put the wind up me in places.

I have these (plus a closed one):

From Wargames Supply Dump. Hopefully their hiatus will be over soon, and they can get back to selling lead to people who love it.

I thought I did too, I remembered it from being a kid. But the BBC repeated it last year and it was terrible! Really clunky and wooden, I actually gave up on it after a couple of episodes. Very disappointing.

Brilliant book though.

Thanks all for the recommendations. Those Ramshackle plants are neat. Just kicking some ideas around right now after the book, plus I've got a big work project upcoming that will see my brushes put aside for a couple of months, but it's nice to know what's out there.

Just had an email from the good people at HLBS - their triffid mini stands 55mm high.

I found this book recently and though it was a great read. I also think 28 days was taken almost directly from the book :o. In fact except for it being enraged zombies instead of triffids it was almost closer to the book story than the 1962 movie. those are some great figures by the way.

I just bought The Day of the Triffids about a month ago, I started reading it and I was just shocked at how horrible it was...I mean I thought it was terrific, but the desolation...the desperation...what a great book.

I have been wondering about going to Michael's or someplace and kit bashing up some triffids of my own, as I have to be tight with dollars these days.

Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!
