Pike and Shotte.... Colonial Militia style!
« on: April 05, 2015, 11:46:57 AM »
So I was reading "A Rabble in Arms" by Kyle Zelner and I was struck by the hobby bug. So what I'm looking for is any information, photos of miniatures you all have done, anything on weapons, battle paintings/photos, uniformology (kind of a general clothing/ buffcoat type topic since most militia wore their own clothes) of the North American militia's in the mid to late 1600's. I mean what could be cooler than a regiment of Virginian or New England pike and shotte with their Indian allies facing off against a Spanish/French/Dutch/Royalist enemy rabble. And yes the colonist's did use pikes, the Massachusetts Bay colony didn't discard theirs until 1676 when they realized its hard to chase Native Americans through the woods with an 18 ft spear....lol

Front Rank Monmouth Rebels would be ideal for these.

As would the Copplestone sculpted Sedgemoor range from Dixon. That will give you more variants. You could also judiciously mix in some of the Brigade Games King Phillip's War range.

Thank all of you! Though  I wish there were some better pictures of those Brigade Pilgrims..... Any help? I like their general look and I think they'd be amazing for the part considering they're actually made for it.

Also I was looking at the League of Augsburg website : http://leagueofaugsburg.blogspot.com/2013/09/par-la-bouche-de-mes-canons-quebec-1690_18.html

I was wondering if anyone had ever fought a battle like during the pike and shotte era? Game wise I mean, just interested to see how it would turn out for the New Englanders...lol
