Though I wasn't quite sure what is the actual entry in the lower one - bots or men - that is how I imagine the colours in that old Flash Gordon movie. That disco style metalic colour. I almost can hear them electro engines wheeling over the floor.

 ^^

I'll open a project thread later on - it's a Doctor Who theme. Gallifreyan Temporal Commandos (the "humans") vs. Daleks (the neurotic pepperpots of doom on the right).

CHAOS IS NO MATCH FOR THE POWER OF THE DALEKS!

Thanks for the kind words. I was most pleasantly surprised how the metallics came out, it's Revell aluminium acrylic with a coat of Vallejo "transparent blue" plus some gloss varnish on top. I'll open a project thread for the Who stuff once the first few rounds are finished since there is much more to come.

Same with the red? Revell with transparent red? And the gold is Revell, too? Are the pigments in metallic Revells more evenly distributed?

In short, yes - all the figures are basecoated Revell Aqua Aluminium, the bright red Dalek uses Vallejo Transparent Red, the blue ones Transparent Blue, and the Time Commandos a mix of the two to produce a translucent burgundy. Golds are actually various Vallejo brass shades.

Revell Aqua Aluminium is, IMHO, the very best metallic paint I've ever used. Their gold/brass and steel tones pale in comparison due to poorer coverage, so I prefer Vallejo for brass tones and one or two different gunmetals - other "steel" tones I usually mix with Revell Alu as a base. It goes off on too much of a tangent for this LPL thread, but you could search for my "Perry Comet" thread to see more examples of the Revell Aluminium in use, for minis as well as large surfaces. My Round Two entry will feature a slightly different use of the paint, so stay tuned. ;)
