Terminator Miniatures Game - Resistance Sprue
« on: April 26, 2015, 01:36:11 PM »
So yesterday was Salute and I had the great fortune to spend some time chatting with the good folks at River Horse Games about the new Terminator game and build (and take away) some terminators and a copy of the Ltd Edition resin Kyle Reese miniature. I'm conscious that we've previously seen lots of nice photos of the terminator models and there are even some photos of the Kyle Reese miniature out there but when I got given a sprue of the upcoming Resistance fighters I thought 'going to have to share this!'

So for your review the upcoming plastic resistance miniatures from the new Terminator war-game:

The good news is that actually the miniatures are pretty cool and nicely detailed - the earlier photos we saw just don't do them justice.

Enjoy all!

As long as the arms work.  A lot of modular "double arm" plastics tend to not fit precisely.  If they did these right, that'll be cool for the game.  Don't love the figs but this is a board game right?

Better looking than I'd expected based on the earlier photos.

Very cool. I like them but o much wasted space on the sprue. Termie heads, canteens etc could easily slot into those spaces.

I agree on the issue of wasted space on the sprues but chatting to the creators at Salute it was obvious they want this to appeal to the novice crowd as well as the more hardcore wargamer, hence I think the push-fit arms, monopose bodies, integrated bases and lack of greebles.

The good news is definitely that (1) they are working up a range of resin models with a ton of extra detail on them for the veteran wargaming crowd (they are really nice models), (2) the game is a wargame rather than a boardgame (had this confirmed to me - you'll be able to use all the terrain you already own) and (3) they have a ton of planned releases from Terminator Genisys, Terminator and Terminator 2 including Hunter Killers!

Did anyone see Alessio's video about the game being in three or four editions? I saw it over on Beasts of War and I'm not sure what I think about the whole thing. I'll likely pick up the Genisys starter, but will have to play it and have a look at the models before I go beyond that. I really don't care about the game itself, but will play it if it's decent. I freely admit that I'm pretty much just in it for the models.

I watched the video last night (hadn't realised it was Alessio I'd been talking to at Salute) and am now wondering if he meant that he was going to be making the editions in line with the genisys films rather than what I wrote earlier (although I'm certain we spoke about the old ones as I suggested they might make technicals for the resistance).

Started painting the figures I have last night, as expected the terminators are easy and surprisingly nicely detailed but the resistance are a different bag. Bear in mind that these are prototypes and I was told they are going to sharpen the detail up but at the moment I'm finding the details aren't great once you get the paint out and trying to stick with the colour scheme is leading to some dull looking models. Will carry on working my magic and will probably post a. Pict when done and we can decide between us what we think!

I thought it was quite sad that Alessio was reduced to running a speed cliping out contest for what where imho substandard plastic tetminators.

Naff models, 'bored' game look. Definitely not one for me. Will stick to my proxies.

Was exited and willing to give tis a go, but after googling the website (BTW, it's always good netiquette to post a link in the OP for threads like this), I kind of have to agree with the Commander.

Models look okay-ish in the renders: too many liberties with the classic design, but at that scale it's not that important ('cept for the guns). Pics of the sprues and assembled minis made me recoil though. They may not want to call it a board game for marketing purposes, but that's very much the level they're actually shooting for, apparently.

The "Genisys" thing might be a deal breaker for me. I know the movie studio that allowed them licensing probably dictated that, but still: the more I see of that movie, the less I want to see that movie. Just looks a painfully cynical, cheap, and dumb cash-in.

If Reese looks like the new guy* instead of Michael Biehn that'll be the last straw.

*Seriously: they guy is almost comically wrong. Dude straight-up looks like a curly haired terminator. In fact, I'm calling it now: the movies big twist will be that this timeline's Reese is actually a terminator and doesn't know it, like whatsisface in Salvation.

History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

My interest vanished completely when I saw how tall the Resistance guys are (taller than new Infinity figs). I'll keep an eye out for Hunter-Killers and such but otherwise I won't be touching this -- if even then.

Even in these pictures the miniatures look rather soft in terms of detail. The waste upwards could be better in terms of detail.

I'll stick with EM4 / Forlorn Hope I think.
