Okay, before the CH-53, there was the CH-37 Mojave, at the time the biggest lift helicopter in the World.

Indeed. Interesting. If i remember correctly it was two of those bi-planes that were used to bomb Phou Pha Thi (Lima Site 85, the secret U.S. Air Force radar facility) on january 12 of 1968. :-)

An-2 were used as bombers, attack aircraft, artillery spotters - during the war in Vietnam, Cambodia, Nicaragua. Croats are widely used them during the breakup of Yugoslavia. As well use these aircraft in inter-ethnic conflicts in the territory of the former USSR.

Not the most practical helicopter in service, at least in a troop lift role but without doubt one of the coolest looking choppers ever. The Belvedere saw quite a bit of active service in the 1960s from Aden through to Borneo and Malaya. Hopefully one day someone will make an accurate model in 1/48.
