Want sure about watching it but its one of my wife favourite periods so I watched it anyway.
I enjoyed it and thought the costumes and locations where very good.

I looked forward to watching it, unfortunately I fell asleep after about 20 minutes, the last 10 minutes seemed OK though.  I found it too slow and too thoughtful, lovely to look at though.  But I shan't bother with the rest.

A few more months before PBS shows it here in the States, so I can't comment yet, but I'm pleased to hear it's gone over well so far.  One thing I can say, though, is that Mark Rylance just doesn't look right to me as Cromwell.  He's a great actor (saw him in Jerusalem when it came to New York).  But much is made in the book of how stout and threatening Cromwell is, and Rylance is just too lean and thoughtful-looking for my liking.  Maybe his acting will... flesh out the role?
Now what is this whole life of mortals but a sort of comedy, in which the various actors, disguised by various costumes and masks, walk on and play each one his part, until the manager waves them off the stage?

I suppose Rylance isn't as jowly as Holbein's painting, but I sespect he could still be imposing nontheless.

Haven't read the books (plan to), but when he broke out of 'watchful, thoughtful' mode he was more terrifying than any of those wannabees out of Game of Thrones.

One of the guys in my uni was an extra in this so we all had to sit in the common room and watch it.

Maybe it's because the guy is an absolute arse , but i just couldn't get into it.  lol

Caught the first episode when it aired last night.  Still not sure what I think of it or how well I like Rylance's take on Cromwell's impassivity, but I agree that when there was a glint of emotion in his eyes he looked pretty convincing.

Ah, now that was the beauty of it, it was subtle and understated- it had the right kind of atmosphere for the intrigue that took place at the Tudor Court.

I was impressed by all the actors and the direction was excellent!

Cinematography spot on for the time period too.

What was there not to like? We're usually fed pretty terrible renditions of the past that are supposed to pass as historical.
