Don't panic when you walk into the event and see lots of athletic fit people - you must understand that in Britain all wargames are slender, with racing snake figures who all look like they could run a marathon.

Don't feel self conscious just enjoy the day ;)
Don't listen to him follow the fat people with the backpacks lol

I joined that queue one year... wishful thinking I guess.

Don't forget that a lot of the games are demo only. I understand that the vast majority of games in US conventions are participation and 'slots' are taken up during the day, not so here.

Don't let that put you off from talking to the people running the games though  :)

Yes, they'll mostly do their best to ignore you, or will look annoyed if you interrupt their game by asking questions. lol

Come and say hello at the Oshiro Model Terrain Mars VSF game. We"re a friendly bunch. :D

Impossible to say. If you don't want to queue, get there about an hour after opening (say 11.00). The queue should all have gone by then.
It's a different adventure every year with the queue, with or without an advance ticket.
If you get there at 09.00, you'll probably still be queuing to get in at 10.30.

I am hoping the advance scanning thingy will speed things up...mind you saying that don't intend to get there until 10.30-11.00

I've been home for a couple of hours and I'm so tired, I'm still trying to work out how to take off the security bracelet thingy... :D

6milPhil,
It went really well - no issues at all getting there or through ques. I was rolling dice by 1010.

It's a great show, the overall quality of the games is so high. At home we have some great games but also lots of blanket and felt with primed fig games. Which is fine and I don't judge but it was fun to be at a show were every table was a gem.  I got to talk to some great people, including some forum members, and just generally the show was inspiring - I must carry that inspiration home. (The very job that made it possible for me to come also makes it difficult to execute the projects I want to be working on.)

I know I missed some things and I wish the show'd been longer but I never felt rushed. I got a couple games in,  including the WWI stretcher bearer game which was very fun.

I did less shopping than I expected but still bought more than I can use between now and when I move home. It all fits in the luggage and I'm pretty sure I'm good on weight - not sure where the luggage scale got to.

Thanks again to everyone for the tips.

You're welcome, there was a bit of a panic getting them there but thanks to McFonz they did indeed get there.  8)

You'd fine the simpler games at smaller or more local shows, but Salute is the gold-standard, the gaming olympics, so everyone goes for broke. Glad you had a great time.

Anyone remember who put on the Stingray game?

It was good to meet and say hello Bob. Glad you enjoyed your day. It is a bit overwhelming in some ways, but still just about the best wargaming day out on the planet  :)
